Poor Cardiff performance brings minimal punishment

|

West Ham’s horrible performance against Cardiff has certainly not been punished as it might have been this weekend.

They are just a point worse off with Wolves in seventh place after the midlands outfit grabbed a draw at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

And they remain the same four points behind Watford who yesterday were well beaten 3-1 by Manchester City.

It doesn’t alter the fact that the Hammers performed very badly but despite the deep disappointment they remain in the chase for seventh or eighth place regardless of the manner of the events in Wales.

The Hammers are the only side in action of the three on the forthcoming weekend when Huddersfield are visitors to the London Stadium.

After that we head into the international break which we will not wanting to enter  on the back of anything less than a convincing win against the Yorkshire outfit.

The Premier League programme re-commences with the Hammers taking on Everton  – a 5.30 kick off with Watford away to Manchester United and Wolves travelling to Burnley.

I think with away games at Man Utd, Chelsea and Spurs plus Watford, and tough home guys against resurgent Leicester under Brendan Rodgers and Southampton, seventh will be a very big ask. We should beat Huddersfield but at the end of the season we may not be that much better off in terms of points and position than last year

I know they were all way below par,but at least we will have Balbuena in for the Hudds game as Ogbonna has flattered to deceive again.Snoddy looks spent so Antonio back please and surely Arnie will lead the line.Baffled by Anderson’s drop in form too.

agree with most of that. however, and i’m not his biggest fan, i think Ogbonna has been quite good during Balbuena’s absence. shakey to start with but grew into the relationship with Diop over those weeks. i thought he was our best on the weekend, not a great achievement considering everyone else’s performances, but still very decent

Minimal punishment yes but we’ve missed out on maximal benefit

Honestly the stuff that’s written about us getting into Europe and in the top half of the premier league is fading fast, it was all a pipedream To be honest? To be going into Europe we would have had to have 22 good squad players next season. We have not won away for the last 6 away games with the present squad of players that have survived this far in the season, and we are just short of the magic 40 point safety point at this time of the season? My point that I’m making is like Burnley who qualified for Europe and have struggled in the premiership this season, and is similar to west ham’s situation a couple of years back ? I cannot see us (West ham) doing anything different again ? Unless a very big backer with loads of dosh comes in? So us fans are usually happy to be “safe ” in the premiership, the Europa cup is a chalice of doom for most qualifiers who don’t have “dosh” . Therefore I think it might be good to have a day out at Wembley in one of the domestic cups than a place in the Europa cup first, oh for a cup final day like in1980 or even the one we lost in Cardiff to the scousers !! At least we had a good day out?? Just my thoughts, but please we MUST take the domestic cups more seriously next season and not go out to a team that was bottom of one of the lesser leagues???? Always living in hope C.O.Y.I

We are 5 or 6 players short of being able to juggle Europe and a European push, we need to sell a player for big money to fund a push just as the Spuds did with Bale.

Our ‘punishment’ will most likely come in April when we have to play the likes of Man U, Chelsea, and Tottenham and we will be wishing we had picked points up against the bottom teams like Cardiff.
