West Ham boss Graham Potter has given a revealing insight into how he will recruit new players for the Hammers.
With former Director of Football Tim Steidten now gone and Potter’s pal Kyle Macaulay instated as Director of Football, many had assumed that all of Steidten’s former targets would be chucked in the wastepaper bin.
However, that is not the case, as the new West Ham manager revealed in the Iron Cast interview given to the club recently.
“It’s important we don’t come in and undo the good work the club has done before we arrived,” noted Potter.
“Maybe the club has been scouting a player for six months and has done their research, so it’s important we don’t throw that progress away.”
Whether Potter is alluding to Ezechiel Banzuzi, who Martin wrote about earlier this morning, or making a more generalised statement is unclear. But the Dutch midfielder was very much a Steidten recommendation and looks to have the makings of an excellent player, so it’s good to hear that the new recruitment team won’t automatically discard all that’s gone before.
I think we’ll regret getting rid of Tim personally
Yet another plus for Steidten, there does seem to be a lot of those. So did he have to go just because Macaulay is Potters buddy? Not a good enough reason in my book, especially if he decides to put the screws to West Ham in retaliation (and who could blame him?)
Steidten did two types of recruitment…
1. We need someone in pronto because without them we don’t have the squad to start the season. Due to poor recruitment over a long period of time. He needed to choose from the limited number available at that time, sellers knew we were desperate so hiked prices, we had a lot of settling in issues all at the same time. How not to run a club, recruitment should be steady to avoid all those drawbacks.
2. He and others did a lot of numbers crunching, this young player shows good reliable stats but has not appeared on the radar of traditional scouts. Pearl diving whether he’s actually gone on to buy the player Irving, Guilherme, Kante, or whether the info still exists in paper form.
Potter is nobodies fool, he really isn’t anybodies fool and he recognises the value of that work but he’d better get a move on as Steidten will know who those players are and is likely to be on their cases for his next employer.
We made a mistake moving steiden on , we all see it soon enough
Surely not. What’s happened to your anti Steiden he had to go etc? Now you’re saying he identified good targets. Looking forward to the they were all identified by Sullivan article in Sept!
Sullivan is the threat. If the targets are not Salthouse or Silkman clients he could veto the purchase
