There is confusion over the exact terms of Graham Potter’s 2.5-year contract with West Ham. Some sources close to the deal claim it is a straightforward agreement with no break clauses, while others suggest a six-month break clause tied to performance criteria, such as points tally or league position at the end of the season.
Having been briefed on negotiations in recent days, it seems likely that both parties have reached a compromise.
Claret & Hugh have been informed by several sources that Potter is confident in his abilities and sees West Ham as a long-term project.
However, his decision to delay bringing in more staff he has worked with until next season could hint at a severance package arrangement should he fail to meet expectations this season.
That said, all indications suggest the former Chelsea boss is planning for the long haul and is confident in his ability to turn things around this campaign.
As reported on C&H, the new Hammers manager has already contributed transfer suggestions as he begins to shape the squad to his vision
Really can’t wait for tomorrow’s game … whatever the result …🤞🤞…. It should be interesting ⚒️⚒️
Well by what others are saying about Potters first press conference he seems to already be making the right noises… especially about the club background … academy and Mark Noble
Now let’s see how he can motivate the team against Villa tomorrow…COYI ⚒️⚒️
Ok any short term contract based on results till the end of the season seems reasonable… if Potter can get results his contract and salary will deserve to increase …. I hope he uses Noble and some of the academy players ….
I’m super pleased by this appointment, but I think we need to temper our initial expectations. I don’t expect the Villa game to be a lot different to what we’ve seen so far – he’s not had enough time to meet the players, hear what they have to say and implement new ideas. I personally never felt that the players weren’t giving what energy they had to the Lopi cause – I just don’t think they knew what they were expected to do. Clearer communication will help with that for sure.
Nothing but respect for him. Long game it is. Hopefully incorporating academy talent and letting go of those not good enough.
I think that a lot of it was down to a general chaos situation rather than inherently poor players, so with a few changes during the window some prospect of a noticeable quick improvement.
I’m not counting on anything other than an improved performance at Villa, it’s a tough gig whoever was going there. I’m not counting on massive improvement and challenging for European places that ship has probably sailed.
Better than has been trending upward with anything more than that a bonus.
Okay, the best we can have this season is made table obscurity. I would like to an improvement, even a slight one next season. After that, as it’s not going to happen overnight, we challenge for Euro spots. I like Potters comment of it being a long term project. But first things first, sort out the bloody defence and stop the heavy defeats!!!

Having seen potters first interview and his first press conference I think this bloke is the perfect fit. I was really impressed with what he had to say. Particularly what he had to say about us being a family club. his mentions of the academy and mark noble etc. I’m aware he’s media trained and he’s trying to appeal to the fans etc but he just came across as a nice warm bloke the sort of bloke you’d want to run through brick walls for. I really hope he’s a success.
Agree with this 👌 came across brilliantly in the press conference. Left me feeling hopeful for the future.
It’s been an unbelievably difficult twelve months, a complete nightmare with a serious of protracted mistakes, one after another. To be fair to Lopetegui he was always a complete gentleman and did his utmost best to improve performance’s and to always take responsibility for results and supporters appreciated and respected that but it was clear to all after six months that his communicative skill’s to player’s, supporter’s and media was not as good as it should have been. Graham Potter is a young but experienced coach and he knows, as did Moyes, that there is enormous potential at the club just waiting to be fulfilled. Moyes began the process and to some extent Lopetegui has tried to continue the process, probably with a squad of over age and senior player’s not only unable to adopt to a new style but also lacking athleticism to implement it. Hopefully, we can all move on as one now and look forward to improved performances and results.
It was a good interview to hear. Glad he mentioned the Academy and you get the feeling from hearing him talk, that he and Noble could possibly form a good working relationship. That would be good for the Academy players. Anyhow, in the meantime going to look forward to seeing changes on the pitch, with players enjoying their football more & working together as a real team. That has all been missing.
Well hopefully Sullivan will give Potter what he wants in January for players. First game in months i am really looking forward to watching us play, No more clueless football from the idiot lopi. COYI
