Potter Pushed For Player’s Return

A top source at West Ham has confirmed the return of James Ward-Prowse when speaking to Claret & Hugh this morning as we published earlier, and has now been confirmed on the whufc.com web site.

The midfielder had his season-long loan to Nottingham Forest terminated by mutual consent, with ‘JWP’ getting little to no game time for the high-flying team who beat Brighton 7-0 at the weekend.

He returns to West Ham with the full approval and instruction of new Hammers head coach Graham Potter, although he will not be able to feature in this evening’s game against Chelsea. Although he is ineligible for tonights fixture, Ward-Prowse is flying back today from warm weather training in Dubai to meet up with the squad .

Ward-Prowse is likely to find a much more appreciative head coach waiting for him than last August when Lopetegui dispatched him on loan unceremoniously on deadline day to make way for Carlos Soler.

Gradually the mistakes of the Lopetegui era are unpicked: The return of JWP is expected to significantly lessen the game time for Guido Rodríguez, who the club has been trying to offload for the majority of the transfer window.

West Ham are continuing to work hard to get players out, but with the game at Stamford Bridge tonight, it has become more difficult.

As well as Rodríguez, Danny Ings and Andy Irving are also available to move on, but Ings is understood to be happy to remain in East London, and there have only been loan offers for Scottish midfielder Irving

Ward Prowse had quite an impact after he came in the first time I remember. He had quite a few goal involvements I remember. His form died off a bit second half of season. Let’s hope we get the player he was before.

Welcome back J.W.P. ignore the moaning Minnie’s knee jerk comments. G.P . knows what he is doing.

I wonder how many games it will take C&H to moan that JWP is too slow and not good enough for the Premier league? I really don’t understand this one, but I hope he overdelivers on expectations

  • John Ayris says:

It was a season long loan so we needed to agree to take him back. Therefore it was a considered decision that it was worth foregoing the remaining loan fee and paying his wages. He was wanted back not Forest wanted rid of him because they were not able to force that.

  • Hammerpete6 says:

He is not a driving attacking midfielder and not a strong interceptor. Good at free kicks and corners. That’s it.

  • Craig says:

Happy to see JWP back as it will hopefully mean no more Rodriguez in the side

  • Terry says:

Just really shows how poor the squad is in quality if we’re bringing JWp back ,yes he is better then some of our current midfielders but it is not the powerful player we need, cannot imagine what Moyes and loppy had as their vision
