Claret & Hugh understands that Graham Potter could be set to return to his old club Brighton in an attempt to solve the central defensive issues at the club.
An agent source has informed C&H that Adam Webster could be brought in to provide central defensive cover, with the Hammers gaffer unconvinced by Dinos Mavropanos.
To add an extra twist to the defensive restructuring, Nayef Aguerd could be given a chance to prove himself in pre-season following his impressive performances in La Liga on loan with Real Sociedad.
However, it is the interest in 30-year-old Webster that is thought to be something of a priority as Potter seeks to work with his former player.
The south coast born and bred centre-back’s contract runs until the summer of 2026 and he has not been used regularly by the Seagulls this season, although he did see some FA Cup action last weekend.
Whilst the signing of another journeyman will do little to set pulses racing at the London Stadium, it is worth remembering the impact a certain Craig Dawson made upon moving to East London.
Nayef Aguerd doesn’t suit a low block which was what he got under Moyes. But he should very much suit a higher defensive line what with his speed is what he would get with Potter. The question is that he wanted away, would he want to come back ? I guess that as our player he would come back here for preseason.
“Whilst the signing of another journeyman…”
He’s been a pro since 2012 and has been at 4 clubs and has been at his current club since 2019. I mean Paqueta has played for the same number of sides and is younger so is he a journeyman too?
He’s maybe not an exciting signing but he’s no journeyman, that’s for sure.
Journeyman you say Gonzo so if we signed a 22year old would he be inexperienced and needing time?.. As you mentioned Dawson who many thought here we go again and yet he turned out to be one of the best buys we made in many a year….Players attitude matters more than age…as long as they are coming to play and not after one last pay day age should be irrelevant.
