West Ham United have officially parted ways with head coach Julen Lopetegui and his entire backroom staff, ushering in a new era under former Chelsea boss Graham Potter. The departures include Pablo Sanz, Oscar Caro, Juan Vicente Peinado, Borja De Alba, and Edu Rubio, leaving Potter with the task of rebuilding a comprehensive coaching team at the London Stadium.
We’re all eagar to see who Potter brings along to support him in revitalising the Hammers coaching staff. At Chelsea, Potter relied on a trusted team, many of whom followed him from Brighton. Could any of them be headed for east London?
Billy Reid, Potter’s former assistant, is unattached since leaving Chelsea, making him a prime candidate. Bjorn Hamberg is now Feyenoord’s assistant manager, while Bruno Saltor Grau remains without a club. Anthony Barry has progressed to England’s backroom team, making his availability unlikely.
Intriguingly, Kyle Macaulay, Chelsea’s head of scouting, might be tempted by a prominent recruitment role at West Ham. Meanwhile, Xavi Valero, the Hammers’ goalkeeping coach, is expected to stay.
The Potter revolution is just beginning at West Ham!
Having supported WHU for over 60 years I can understand why there has been so much criticism of managerial appointments over the past few years. WHU have all the ingredients to being a top 6 side….but we constantly fail to achieve it. Sorry to say it…..but it is due to the controlling behavior of the board. However….finally….80% of the fans welcome this appointment….we welcome the spring uprising……lets give our traditional total support to Mr Potter and give him time to give us the football we long for…..I have been frustrated for so long to see other teams play entertaining football successfully……I predict GP will, at least, give us that!
Great post and agree 100%. It was good to see the board finally saw sense on the short term 6 month contract offer and use proper performance measures for the break clauses to avoid the negotiations breaking down. Finally signs of progress and let’s hope the board and fans give him the time and backing he needs to build the success we all want to see on the pitch and entertaining football.
Spot on and well said
While Sullivan is around, we would be better off with Dennis Potter
I think most of us will just be glad this has finally been announced and we can hopefully look forward to a much more positive second half to the season. Good luck to our new manager and his coaching team, and I hope he gets the time and financial backing from the board to deliver future success for our great club. Best of luck Graham and looking forward to tomorrow’s press conference. ⚒️
Well… that was 2024 and not much fun for any of us Hammers. Let’s put a line under it and look forward. Our squad isn’t that bad and has in the past shown resilience and might stop jogging and start running again under new management.
It’s ok to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them and rectify them (perhaps more quickly next time!!)
Good luck Mr Potter, I think you might just be what we need! COYI!!
I welcome Potter but just hope we get Brighton Potter and not Chelsea Potter.
It’s not a case of whether Potter will be good, bad or indifferent ( his playing style will certainly be a pleasant change though) it’s whether Sullivan will let him manage.
Look at the way he appears to have meddled with Steiden, ignoring most of his player and manager recommendations. Forced to sign Fulkrug as a last minute buy because Sullivan wouldn’t pay a few million more to get Duran. Let’s hope that Potter is allowed to do what he needs to do, only then can we judge him
Great news Sean. We need to get ahead of the pack now by taking the first steps in the Potter Out campaign.
Good luck everybody!
COYI
Quite happy with this appointment. Think a few on here will be pleasantly surprised.
This reminds me when Newcastle appointed Eddie Howe. Quite a few of their fans were underwhelmed as he’d been out of the game for a while and his last act as a manager was overseeing Bournemouth’s relegation. Hasn’t done too bad since though.
I reckon Potter will have a massive point to prove and no doubt will have learnt a lot from his experience at Chelsea and no doubt will want to put that right and restore his reputation.
Potter OUT SACK THE BOARD. At least we’ll have something to SING!
All I would like to say is good luck to Mr Potter we are all behind you coyi’s
Good choice to build our youngsters and go forward. Must get the best out of our premodonnas quickly or get rid at decent prices. COYI
As a point of interest this is the list of our most recent managers: Avram Grant, Sam Allardyce, Bilic, Moyes 1, Pellegrini, Moyes 2, Lopetegui and finally Graham Potter.
Wow, apart from Bilic and the fantastic success in Europe of Moyes 2, this is dour. No idea what kind of success Graham Potter will bring to the club, but we might see quite a sea change in footballing approach. It’ll be quite a shock to our systems!
Interesting use of descriptor “Dour”.
But I have to agree, this is not a party crowd!
Grant was a shambles, worst manager in WHU history.
Allardyce got the results required, with occasional moments of football breaking out.
Bilic initially looked like the messiah (3-0 win @ Anfield!?) until he got found out.
Great Moyes bounce, No1
Pellegrini, West Ham had some moments under his guidance.
Moyes 2 ; Brilliant at times, but 12 months too long.
Loopy. WTF, so underwhelmed.
Graham Potter, I wish you all the success the footballing gods with allow you.
Time to get behind Graham and give the fellah a chance to get his show on the road as he obviously has a lot to sort out !
Wonder if he’s ever made a 147 ?
Wrong sort of Potter, Kenny. This one’s from Please Sir.
Super observation. Smiley faces everywhere.
Now I am behind Potter to be given a chance and see us play some football, just hope Sullivan gives him what he needs in January transfer,
Nothing but positive as far as I’m concerned, time may prove that wrong but for the first time in months I can look forward to a game again. I’d love a cup run and trophy of course but pushing up the league has to be the priority for me, hopefully with an injection of youth, pace and belief into the team. It’s no time for moaning, this where we all pull together on and off the pitch
Good, get in Potter !!! let’s hope he can recruit some trusted members and maybe some fresh ones that can add something new.
COYI !!!
Well said someone said good luck to Potter working with the board I’d say the same for the majority of the moaners on this site⚒⚒⚒
ANY OLD, ANY OLD IRON
SAME OLD, SAME OLD IRONS
In this age of data driven analytics lets compare how the Irons have done before & with David Sullivan as Chairman.
GSB took over mid season 2009/2010 so strip that season out of the analysis & this season because its not been completed.
There have been 13 seasons since GSB took over of which 12 have been in the EPL & one in the Championship. On average WHUFC have finished in Place 10.9 with 49 points & -5 GD.
Prior to the GSB takeover WHUFC were in the Championship 2 years and in the EPL 12 times in a 14 year period. Average place 11.3 with 48 points & a GD of -9.
In summary, WHUFC have done marginally better under GSB on all 3 metrics and have only spent 1 season rather than 2 out of the EPL so GSB have not been all bad but then again haven´t yet delivered any significant boost from playing in a 62,000 seat stadium.
Nice stats Hendo
Although now it’s KSB and will take your word for the accuracy.
Sounds about right though, I wonder if they will sack themselves, thank themselves and wish them every success in the future ?
Excellent analysis. I would be happy with mid table position on average. What I want is better entertainment.
The club have not conducted themselves well. But then Lopetegui has had his own issues when at Wolves and Spain.
I wish Potter all the best working with the current board.
Most people who post on this site seem only to want to moan and criticise so I guess that won’t change.
Potter did a very good job at Brighton and I wish him well. Building team spirit and unity has to be high on his agenda. If he can do that and tighten up our defence then he’s in with a chance of taking us forward.
Exactly so, John, thanks for not following the trend and moaning too!
He also did well at Chelsea and had their strikers been able to score would have been right up there, considering all the challenges of managing a humongous squad am hopeful he learned a lot and will use that to get us moving in the right direction, it’s likely it will take a while but who knows maybe the players will get his system right away COYI!!!
Agree 100%.
Sadly, I think the negativity from some will just keep coming but we have to believe that one day we will actually find a manager and set of players that might just go part way to stifling the serial complainers….but there again!!!!
Potter has turned down job offers from Ajax, Leicester, Southampton and AC Milan, and Everton were circling. So he must have something! 😉
I’m sure Villa would have preferred Lopetegui stay as manager
About time too. This should have happened 2 months ago. Having said that we should wish Loppy well for the future, it was his aim to make us that poor I’m sure.
WASN’T THAT GREAT AT BRIGHTON EITHER 31% WIN RATE WASTE OF TIME
So you would prefer to keep Loppy would you Annette? Maybe just take a breath before judging and give him a chance to see what he can bring to the table at West Ham….instead of just criticising, but then again it appears that’s all people enjoy doing nowadays. If you can’t at least be decent, then be quiet .🤷
To be fair Annette, he was decent enough for Chelsea to give him a chance, so I’m happy for us to roll the dice. Sadly, I’m yet to see a single positive, or even balanced comment from you, which is a shame and unnecessary.
There’s constructive criticism, and there’s just spiteful, unjust and unfounded criticism. Perhaps ask yourself whether the world needs more negativity before you smash that ‘Post’ button again, eh?
COYI and best of luck to Graham and the squad. Let’s go!!
Guardiola wasn’t available, unfortunately.
At Brighton he had to turn the playing style 180 degrees around, similar to at West Ham, they were playing Chris Hughton style on the defensive side of negative football, so he should fit in well here.
“The Potter revolution is just beginning at West Ham!”
How long until someone here starts posting negatively about him or his appointment?
MORE OR LESS IMMEDIATLEY LOL
2 minutes after your post lol. No pleasing some people!
