“I Hope They Win” | Potter’s Porkies as West Ham Boss Schmoozes Big Ange

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was clearly buzzing following the club’s 3-1 win against Bodø/Glimt in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final on Thursday night.

Big Ange has carried a sorry look in recent times, and it’s difficult to see him continuing in the Spurs hot seat next season even if he wins the club’s first trophy in donkey’s years.

However, it wasn’t just the Tottenham gaffer who seemed pleased with the North Londoners’ excellent first-leg showing against the Norwegians. West Ham’s very own Graham Potter was in full schmooze mode and clearly keen for Sunday’s opponents to go all the way.

Potter was speaking ahead of the West Ham vs Spurs match at the London Stadium and was asked about our London rivals’ achievement in reaching the European semi-final.

Potter graciously — but also somewhat awkwardly — said: “Hopefully Tottenham can finish the job and reach the final.” Erm . . . really?

Perhaps he couldn’t have said much else, or maybe he hasn’t yet been made fully aware of the rivalry between the two clubs. But suffice it to say, Potter’s sentiment will certainly not be shared by a large chunk of the Hammers fanbase.

In all likelihood, Potter was probably just trying avoid doing Postecoglou’s team talk for him — so perhaps a few white lies won’t hurt.

After all, saying “They’re rubbish, we’re worse, and I hope they get turned over next week” probably isn’t the done thing but Potter probably didn’t help himself buy saying he hopes Spurs win.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

Perhaps he was using his psychology degree to soften Ange up…Reverse Psychology works wonders on some people.
On to the game tomorrow…It would be quite nice if we had a decent first 45 minutes, instead of playing catch up in the second half…
If the worst happens then Potter should walk…Because if you cant get them up for this one then even with your own team next year we will probably be relegation favorites…
I predict 2..2…Which will sum up Mr Vanillas tenure so far…Strangely enough as an ice cream flavor its probably my favourite …But as a wallpaper colour its up there with magnolia..Bland boring …But ready for some else to put their own colour on it…
Of course im hoping for a convincing win…But the reality is we have seen nothing this season that points to that….Newcastle away under Loppy…..Arsenal away…..Ipswich at home are very poor returns …We need lift off people…Even this late in the season…Its the hope that kills you.

What an idiotic thing to say about our closest rivals in the league who are doing as shit as us but just not as shit.

Can’t understand this mentality. More English clubs doing well in Europe leads to a greater chance of West Ham achieving Euro qualification next season. West ham fan for over 50 years but still wish Spurs, Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal good luck. COYI

didn’t help himself? i’m guessing you want to see a tidal wave of invenctive with the sanctimonious accusations of not knowing what it means to be a West Ham fan. not happening. not from me anyway

honestly, who could care less at the moment? there’s more spite in an U12s semi final play-off than there will be on tbe weekend

Nice use of the word ‘invective’, not often heard. 👏

What else was Potter supposed to say?
Best not make a big deal over a throwaway comment IMHO.
