West Ham United players returned to Rush Green for pre-season training this morning—but new faces were in very short supply.
For the past five weeks, the lack of transfer activity has been explained away with the old excuse: “It’s early in the window.” But that excuse is beginning to wear thin.
Technically, West Ham could try and pass off Jean-Clair Todibo and Daniel Cummings as new signings—but that won’t wash. Todibo was here last season, and Cummings has gone straight into the academy setup.
That means the Hammers begin pre-season with some very familiar faces—albeit fewer of them. Ordinarily, pre-season is the time to integrate new signings, build chemistry, and get the group fit and firing ahead of the campaign.
Even Graham Potter acknowledged the importance of early business, stating:
“Hopefully we get new faces for pre-season—try to gel the group, the working environment, working culture. These things are so important for us.”
As it stands, only Fulham have signed no one, while Everton have simply made Charly Alcaraz’s loan move permanent. Meanwhile, clubs around West Ham are doing deals—and we’re being left behind.
You can bet the players themselves will be glancing around this morning, looking for fresh talent and finding none.
Right now, it looks like West Ham’s entire transfer window hinges on Daniel Levy making another move for Mohammed Kudus. That’s not a healthy position to be in—and the longer this drags on, the worse it reflects on the club.
Not good enough , we should have signings by now got to back Potter can’t leave it much longer !
What about the lad from France who joins us this season
I’ve just read that Calum Wilson is out of Newcastle and a free. The old barrow boy will be on him like a rat up a drain pipe. 32 years old. Injury plagued and a snip wage wise …what could possibly go wrong
Time waits for no man or whu.
Potter has promised an exciting transfer period obviously not on same page as others at club.
Won’t be first time Potter has not lived up to his promises.
Why do we feel in anyway surprised that there are no new signings ,it’s typical of our transfer business, waiting to sell before we can buy is a excuse from the directors simply won’t put there hands in threre pockets,in case there’s not a profit in it
Nothing new here. If I recall at the start of the last 4-5 seasons managers have requested that new signings be in for the build up of training and to integrate with the team but nothing ever happens. This is all to do with Sullivan and not having the money available at the beginning of the window. Always at the end and then it’s panic buy season from him.
Callum Wilson is leaving Newcastle …..just saying 😙
Just so amateur. Virtually could not have been managed worse.
Why was the claim funding is available made when clearly it isn’t?
To go into a crucial window reliant on sales which then other clubs will obviously low ball on is just so amateur.
Relying on Spurs to buy a player we should have kept is so ridiculous.
The negativity this all breeds is hard to clear and if we start the season badly…..
If there’s no activity soon I can see Potter leaving – and who would blame him.
What a surprise, never saw this coming. Let’s see how the next eight weeks go.
