It’s so easy to get swept up in the transfer gossip—who’s arriving, who’s leaving—that we sometimes overlook who’s already at West Ham.
This thought brings two names sharply into focus: Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme. Whilst Graham Potter’s rebuild is expected to focus on exciting young talent, it’s worth remembering that two such footballers are already at the club.
Blessed with pace and trickery, both players fit the mould of exactly what the Hammers need. . . and what Potter claims he wants.
Summerville’s debut season was derailed by injury, and he’s managed just 45 minutes under Potter. Guilherme’s case is slightly different. Back in January, West Ham received a full money-back offer from Flamengo for the £20m signing from Palmeiras. It was rejected—Potter wanted a closer look at the 19-year-old.
That closer look never really happened. For whatever reason, the Brazilian barely featured. But when he did, albeit briefly, Guilherme showed glimpses of real quality—just enough to leave fans wanting more.
One would hope this was part of a long-term plan from Potter, but this coming season will be decisive. Much was made of Guilherme settling in alongside fellow Brazilians Emerson and Lucas Paquetá—but with both likely to leave this summer, it’s time for the newly married winger to stand on his own two feet.
But for that to happen his manager will have to show some faith in him. If he does, Potter may well discover the type of player he wants is right under his nose all along.

We have an abundance of potential in our youth teams too.
Potts, Kasey, Orford, Earthy, Marshall to name a few, definitely not PL ready but give them a season and see what they can do. Get the ones that want out sold Aguerd, Emerson, Paqueta, Alvarez, Fullkrug, Kudus we should be able to get £150m or a bit more for them. Rebuild for 2 – 3 seasons maybe sell JWP, Irving and Soucek too although would keep Soucek given a choice. Might get £200m if we are lucky then we will have slimmed the squad down and can reinvest in some younger players that can press and play.
I agree, I think we have an abundance of young talent in the academy etc.
It’s time we put this to the test.
I’d love to see Earthy, Potts, Scarles a real run out, why not? It’s how Rice, J Cole, Lamps, Defoe progress
How do you manage to write so much nonsense about something we all know is not happening?
