Potts Sends Potter Timely Reminder Of What West Ham Are Missing

Image for Potts Sends Potter Timely Reminder Of What West Ham Are Missing

Only at West Ham United. In a midfield crisis, with zero creativity and not one shot registered on target against Crystal Palace, whoever runs the club web site decides to showcase creative midfielder loanee Freddie Potts doing what he’s been doing all season.  Great call, Hammers team, now can you copy Graham Potter in please?

If you haven’t seen it yet,  take a moment and click on the link below and admire Potts’ gorgeous floated through ball that led to Pompey’s goal. If that had been played by Lucas Paquetá we’d all be drooling. As one Portsmouth fan posted yesterday ‘What a player West Ham have on their hands’.

And in the desperate straits Graham Potter finds himself, with creativity and attacking threat absolutely missing from his West Ham team, I still find it staggering nobody has looked at what Potts offers the stodgy sterile squad and recalls him immediately. Regular readers will be sick of me banging the drum for Potts recall but: Take a look at the video clip and tell me that Guido Rodriguez, Edson Alvarez or Tomas Soucek as they played against Crystal Palace offer more attacking threat.

Matt Ritchie raced onto an inch perfect through ball and finished off beautifully.

That move would have had the crowd out of their seats at London Stadium if it’d been Mohammed Kudus on the end of it. Just saying.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

And what happens when he turns up and doesn’t do anything that surprising, this site seems to be all ifs and buts?

Potts is bossing it at Portsmouth. Leave him where he is thriving and he can come into the squad next season after we’ve moved out some of the dead wood. Why bring him into this mess?

Should get Ritchie as well!! He moved quicker over 20 odd yards than Ings has in 2 years,!!

I agree potter should recall Potts and kudua and Marshall to give them opportunities in the first team.We have so many poor and ageing players it’s embarrassing! Our bench has no impact players to bring on and change the game either. We are in a real mess,I’m a west ham season ticket holder and that game on Saturday was the worst game of football I have every seen. And I’ve seen a lot of games I’m 66 years old.We need to rebuild the first eleven and squad. And then sort out the stadium so that west ham fans can love their team again! Sullivan needs to spend a lot of money wisely or he could lose a lot of genuine west ham fans who are becoming frustrated at the lack of leadership from the board

I saw Potts play for the first team a couple ? of years ago, & immediately recognised the “next Declan Rice”. Yes, he can be that good – & is certainly good enough to be playing first team football at West Ham.

Didn’t I read on this site that any request for the return of loaned players must also be agreed to by the club that loaned the player? I’m sure this is being looked at. It would be nice to get Potts back, but Portsmouth is in a relegation scrap and won’t want to give him back if they don’t have to. I think we’ll have to ‘make do and mend’ until the end of the season.

Without any doubt you are spot on, but I think our manager is well aware, he surely has a bit more insight in all this 😎

  • Zahama says:

I get your point Martin but the question is whether we have a recall option on Potts ?
