Southampton are reportedly interested in signing West Ham winger Maxwel Cornet.

The £17m transfer from Burnley has already been offered an escape route from the London Stadium during the current transfer window, with a club expressing interest, though Cornet is said to have rejected the move.

Whilst the identity of the previous club remains unknown, Southampton’s interest is believed to be a fresh inquiry. The south coast club could be an excellent destination for the Ivorian, as it would allow him to stay in the Premier League. The Saints are aware of West Ham’s desire to offload players and will be looking to negotiate a favourable transfer deal.

West Ham has already proposed subsidising players’ wages, as seen during negotiations for striker Danny Ings. It’s likely a similar arrangement will be offered as the Hammers seek to offload fringe players considered surplus to requirements.

As always, Claret & Hugh will work to verify the most recent reports with our top source at the London Stadium.

So Saints have been interested in both Ings and Cornet now? But these guys are on a mission to stay at West Ham and collect their wages for warming the bench, it would appear.

Poor man management, should have made them work the hot dog stand to recoup some money!!!!!!!!!!

Cornets a seriously good player . Who would be outstanding at a lower to mid table side . I suspect his injury has been overblown . Truth is Moyes and lopetegui don’t fancy him it happens. Venables didn’t like maradona either.

More telling is the players they allegedly want out of the club ie Cornet, Aguerd, Ings haven’t even made the bench. If deals weren’t close I’d suspect they would at least make the squad so hopefully that’s promising.
