Hammers stuck in reverse gear amidst Premier League evolution

Image for Hammers stuck in reverse gear amidst Premier League evolution

With Multi Club Ownership now being the norm within the Premier League, West Ham seem to be trailing behind their competitors. Although West Ham Share holder Daniel Kretinsky also owns Czech powerhouse Sparta Prague, there is no active collaboration between the two clubs at youth or senior level.

Here’s a breakdown of how other Premier League teams are structured under multi club ownership:
Arsenal – Kroenke Sport and Entertainment- Colorado Rapids (MSL)
Aston Villa – V Sports – Victoria SC (Portugal), Real Union (Spain)
Bournemouth – BlackKnight Football Club – Lorient (France), Auckland FC (New Zealand), Hibernian (Scotland) and Moreirense (Portugal)
Brentford – Best Intention Analytics – Merida AD (Spain)
Brighton – Royal Union Saint Gillloise (Belgium) and Hearts (Scotland)
Burnley – ALK Capital – RCD Espanyol (Spain)
Chelsea- BlueCo – Strasbourg (France)
Everton – The Fridekin Group – AS Roma (Italy)
Crystal Palace – Eagle Football Holdings – Olympique Lyon (France) while David Blitzer co-owner has a stake in Brondby (Denmark)
Fulham – Not a multi club ownership model
Leeds United – 49ers Enterprises – Rangers (Scotland)
Manchester City – City Football Group – Girona FC (Spain), Palermo FC (Italy), Troyes (France) , Melbourne City (Australia),  Lommel SK (Belgium), Montevideo City Torque (Uruguay), Bahia (Brazil), Club Bolivar (Bolivia), Yokohama  F Marinos (Japan), Shenzhen Peng City FC (China), Mumbai City FC (India) and NYCFC (USA)
Manchester United – Ineos Group – Nice (France)
Newcastle United – Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund – no other clubs currently owned
Nottingham Forest – Evangelos Marinakis – Olympiacos (Greece)
Sunderland- majority owner Kyril Louis Dreyfus has a 5% stake in Marseille (France)
Tottenham – ENIC Group – divested stakes in other clubs
West Ham – Daniel Kretinsky with his 27% stake in West Ham places him in a position where he has influence over both Sparta Prague and the Hammers.
Wolves – Fosun International- no other clubs currently owned.
Despite the prevalence of these multi-club networks, such as Bournemouth and Chelsea, who actively share their resources and development pathways with their feeder clubs – West Ham remain an outlier, missing a potentially powerful strategic tool.
When Daniel Kretinsky was introduced as a minority shareholder, the assumption was that some ‘mutually beneficial’ connection would follow with the other club in his stable, Sparta Prague. It is a real head-scratcher why no progress has been made to find a mutually advantageous relationship between West Ham and the Czech side.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

I bet Crystal Palace are delighted with the multi club ownership deal they have, it will probably cost them European football next season

  • Taffyhammer says:

Having taken over the Post Office, Danny was looking for something to do on Sundays. West Ham investments provide that interest.

Didn’t we have a link up with an Austrian club at the time we bought Andy Irving?

  • pat says:

Only here to make money only Kretinsky never realised what Amateurs are running the club and he will see his investment blow up in his face when we get relegated.

  • Unhappy hammer says:

Relagation battle on its way hate to say it but it’s bottom 3 all season

Why would anyone want to invest in a club that is run by the premier league biggest clown if kretinsky wants to see the club rise along with his investment then he needs to buy out Sullivan and take over the club totally but he doesn’t seem that interested in doing so that could well spell the end of premier league football at the end of the next season we are a big club with a big reputation and a extremely large fan base but Sullivan is killing our club Sullivan and Brady have got to go if we are ever going to be amongst the top clubs it really is time for a change of ownership sooner the better

  • HammerDan says:

Because our club is run by clowns 🤡 🙄

None of this means a great deal in terms of raw finances within each club. West Ham are missing something because the Board and owners are not managing the image, club cash, television income to structure a sustainable club. They have Directors loans which are short term and need paying….unlike other money bag clubs where the Directors loans are written off and not a debt to the club meaning more money for transfers. We are a championship model in the premier league

  • Paul Basnett says:

Also how about at the very least some bridging finance to get the transfer window moving? Even if it needed to be paid back at the end.
His investment is devaluing daily currently.
I thought Kretinsky insisted on a DOF, hence Steiden, because he knew how shambolic the club is in transfer windows. Looks like his influence is negligible.

  • Hammeroo says:

What exactly is Kretinsky’s motive for becoming a shareholder in West Ham United in the first place? He seems uninterested in increasing his stake and I seem to recall that he was more likely to want out altogether rather than make a takeover bid. He certainly appears like a silent partner as he never says anything as far as I know. Is he waiting for Sullivan to depart?

  • Selsdonhammer says:

Since he bought into West Ham and came on the Board I have struggled to find any benefits Kretinsky has provided since then. It is almost as though the club is just another investment that is barely being actively managed. Furthermore I have read no articles in which he outlines his plans for the club. Based on this his tenure to date has been a major disappointment.

he seems to do nothing for west ham, i know rightly so sullivan and brady get a lot of stick from us west ham supporters, i think its time now to question ketinsky about are we just a silent investment or does he actualy care about our great club, he seems to have great wealth why dont he start spreading some of it to us in the form of some top of the range signings
