In a move that surprised many Premier League watchers, one-time West Ham target, Colombian winger Jhon Arias has officially joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth up to £19m.
Arias was linked to West Ham in June 2024, yet the Hammers opted for Luis Guilherme. News outlet Fichajes suggested last month that the Hammers had reignited their interest. However, Wolves have beaten West Ham to his signature.
Now aged 27, Arias arrives from Brazilian giants Fluminense.
Over four seasons, he racked up 230 appearances, 47 goals, and 55 assists, helping the club win the Copa Libertadores in 2023 and reach the Club World Cup semi-finals in 2025. His final goal for Fluminense—a stunning free-kick against Al Ahly—was a fitting farewell.
The winger has signed a four-year deal with Wolves, with an option for a fifth, and will wear the number 10 shirt, previously held by Matheus Cunha, who departed for Manchester United.
Arias cited his dream of playing in a top European league and his belief in Wolves’ project as key reasons for the move.
Another one bites the dust!
“However, Wolves have beaten West Ham to his signature”
Nonsense. We never had a recent, serious interest.
Another player we were reported as going for and achievable gone.
Remember when we were going for Isak, Gyokeres and Ekitike when it was doable it seemed but decided against it.
Seemed achievable at the time but now way out of our league. We are not learning and with the likes of Callum Wilson going backwards.
Getting good young players is the way the club can thrive and getting Sullivan out of the process.
Whu wasn’t pipped at the post, £19m, we were never in the running.
About £10m more than they want to spend.
