Premier League rivals sniffing around Ben Johnson

David Moyes is determined to get Ben Johnson signed to a new deal this summer with interest emerging from other Premier League clubs.

The 22 year old has yet to agree terms but instead has seen the two year option we hold on him triggered with the club planning talks in the summer.

As was shown with Declan Rice, academy players earn around £2k a week whilst in the academy and once they hit the first team squad agents are looking for hefty rises and that’s where the club is with Ben’s agents right now.

It’s unknown what sort of basic the player and his representatives are looking for but it’s likely to be in advance of £30k a week.

As was the case with Declan we have little doubt that a deal will be agreed with the club aware of interest from Newcastle United and Arsenal.

A club source told Claret and Hugh: “We are confident of getting a deal done -hopefully over five years. We’ll be working on it at the end of the season.”
