It’s that time of the week where attention turns to West Ham’s Premier League game against Chelsea on Saturday, with all eyes on the Hammers’ team selection.
Danny Ings will understandably be pushing for a place in Julen Lopetegui’s starting line-up at The London Stadium, and realistically, he probably deserves it.
Whilst I’m no advocate for Ings playing in isolation on his own, the stark reality is that Michail Antonio has not done enough this season to warrant another start. There is mixed news emerging regarding Niclas Fullkrug’s availability, but I suspect he’ll be okay. Caution means he’ll possibly start from the bench.
Bournemouth were able to trouble Chelsea’s defence during their encounter last weekend, and the West Londoners’ 1-0 away win was not truly reflective of what was very much a game of two halves. Enzo Maresca’s team has only lost to Manchester City in the Premier League this season and does seem to be finding their feet.
However, the same could be said of West Ham, who have two defeats but look to be building solid defensive foundations. I suspect we’ll see a little more enterprising attacking in the early kick-off on Saturday, and I’d expect to see a high press and a quick start from the Hammers.
J-Lo had the team set-up to go from the off against Manchester City and the opening few minutes were high intensity pressing from the Irons who spend much on the first 5 mins in the opposition half.
It will no doubt be a tough test, but if West Ham can get a win, then Lopetegui’s reign will truly be up and running.
Reserving judgment until the starting lineup is announced is my preference.
