Preston North End striker to undergo medical

HugillIt is believed that a £9m fee has now been agreed with Preston North End and West Ham for the services of striker Jordan Hugill

Hugill was left out of the North End squad for Tuesday night’s 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest following speculation over his future. In the hours before the game he had been linked with Crystal Palace, however, West Ham stepped in today and look set to take him to the London Stadium.

He is believed to have travelled to London on Wednesday afternoon for talks with the Hammers. The 25-year-old joined Preston from Port Vale in June 2014 for £25,000 youth compensation and his sale would represent a huge profit for Preston. Vale have a sell-on clause which entitles them to 20% of the fee. Hugill has scored 30 goals for North End in 75 starts and 39 substitute appearances. This season he has scored 10 goals in all competitions with one assist.

  1. Well, looks like he’s a hammer.
Underwhelmed doesn’t begin to explain how I feel about this signing, but as he’s now (almost) one of us he’ll get my support as long as he performs.

    • Its really bad isn’t it .nearly all the clubs around us are putting I decent bid’s into get there men because they know its the only way ..I just don’t get there plan .as people have said 4 weeks and they do this on thee last day…why wait I just front get it

  2. all ways doing things on the cheep normal for them sell one for 18 mil and get one in for 10

  3. Will get behind him like I do any new signing but you get the feeling he is just in to make up the numbers until the end of the season when he will be loaned out. Lets hope we are all wrong and he turns out to be a hidden gem COYI !!!

    • Moyes said he wouldn’t do precisely that

      • He did but seems like he did yes is TGT man but shorter then Arnie is only 6′ & PNE fans happy to see him go & quote get back to playing ball on the deck.
Hope he does well but seems very strange out if no where signing that Moyes went w to help out old club & go w English.
Even Miteovic is taller & more rounded CF& done it in PL.

But needed CDM before Obiang got hurt Ndong does to Watford on loan.
And would love Dendoncker or Amadou both young ball playing CDMs can cover CB w resale value.

But have feeling we will end up w Loan who will be good but leave in summer & Hugill who end up being 3rd choice when squad is fit.

  4. This is laughable,I honestly think after 37 yrs watching whu these owners have got me to a point where I am not sure I care anymore

  5. Don’t know much a out the bloke ! Moyes wants him ? But its not quite Carling is it!
He can’t be worse than ayew ? Can he ? Bentdoctor would be nice ! 😎

    • I’ve read he’s a battering-ram type of player, so may be a direct replacement for Carroll.
I think 32’s on to something, and he’ll probably be used as cover or possibly a late impact sub.
Oh, and careful what you say Laz. The boardettes are out in force today fella.

      • Yes Mary ? All wearing beards talking in deep voices ! I had a load of rocks left over from sakho,s flight and they all went first thing this morning ! At 2 shekels a bag sully bought the lot and handed them out from a suitcase in wardour st market while getti ng his money back playing find the lady and saving up for our next purchase from hackney marshes cow sheds !!! 😂. I thought the plan was to buy prem players with experience!
Its all waffle mate ! Money is the guvner here ! Always has been ! 😉

    • Surely you mean Dongploncker?

  6. Same comments as when we bought Antonio. Let’s give him a chance. Moyes has a good eye for a player. If he gets us out of trouble for the rest of the season and we stay up I will be more than happy. COYI.

  7. Exactly Laz

  8. Do you really care how he scores his goals as long as he gets them. May turn out to be a brahma. Lets hope so.

  9. you could be forgiven in thinking that we are already planning for the worst.
Letting players leave & sign a championship striker. Teams all around us strengthening their squads & our already weak squad is getting worse every hour.
Surely this lad isn’t a replacement for Ayew? More like for Sakho….

  10. THEY HAD 4 WEEKS AND THIS IS ALL THEY CAN COME UP WITH

  11. Lol – just watched the goals video for him – he celebrates each goal as if he has just scored the winner in the World Cup Final, even the tap-ins!

    Shows passion I guess.

  12. Subterranean whelmage from me.

  13. Well it looks like he’s coming on board so let’s give him 5 minutes before we judge him 😂😂

  14. So we’re signing some COUNtrey from Preston ? I mean western 😁😁😁😁

  15. So we have been in competition for two players with Palace. According to Sky they are favourites to get the ‘highly rated’ Amadou. But we have blitzed them over the other guy Hugill who is ‘Preston’s best striker’ – a goal machine with….a one in four strike rate in the Championship. Eh?? Can’t be right…

Oh well looks like we will have plenty of dosh from Ayew. So we should be able to beat Palace in a bidding war. That won’t be so bad after all. To be serious Hugill is surely there just to make up the numbers until Arnie comes back & then in the summer (if we are still in the Prem) we will bag a top notch striker. Nurse, more of those happy pills please.. It could happen. It could…

    • Well given Mario’s performance – his sole signing so far- who knows how good or bad the kid is but of course sarcasm will usually save the day 64. We have been beaten once I THINK – in 10 league games – , Arnie and others coming back …why so much panic over a winter transfer window. Perhaps I tend to trust Moyes more than others. I know it ain’t a Sullivan signing cos he ain’t South American. If this is the kid Moyes wanted i’ll go with it and if this is all he wants I’ll go with that too..

  16. I think he could be a good signing. Looks like a Carroll like focal point of attack but with more pace, movement. Think if we can get our other attacking players like Arnie, antonio, lanzini, mario playing behind him could be really good for the club. Suppose the signing is a bit underwhelming but at least it’s a body through the door and to be honest he can’t be as bad as ayew. There are some really good players in the championship, ive heard about this Scottish international tearing up the league playing for villa, oh wait he’s ours. Why not get him back from loan.

  17. Blimey I have got more pace & movement than Andy Carroll & I am bloody 67!! Well I have when I have downed the extra strong curry anyway! I think he will be like that guy we had on loan from Liverpool when we were in the Championship 2003/2005- big strong & unable to hit a bar door when he is stood inside it. Actually I think he ended up at Preston…maybe. But yes we will have to give him a fair crack. This is not a long term signing. He might get the odd game but unless the owners are bailing out tomorrow & this little joke as a leaving present he will not play 20 games for the club. Unless we go down of course.

  18. Is he Snodgrass in disguise ?

  19. Wish the lad all the best but, what an absolute disgrace. Not really a champions league signing is it GSB, is that all you could come up with after a month.

  20. this is EXACTLY the player we all thought Carroll would be for us.

Welcome to the club son. COYI

  21. No Hugh sarcasm will not save the day. It is the lowest form of wit, but at least it is an attempt at wit. I have quite a lot of faith in Moyes but not to turn water into wine. The lad might turn out to be another Carlton Cole & that could be no bad thing if we are going to carry on as we did through the CC years. It won’t be the end of anybody’s world -certainly not mine- but it won’t be the promised land that a lot of Hammers fans keep hoping for. None of us have seen the lad, but stats over this long a period very rarely lie. Still, as I said very clearly, I will join most on here in giving him my support & if he scores 1 in 2 over the next year I will be happy to be proved wrong – not for the first time.

  22. Not gonna knock the lad as its not his fault and MAYBE he could surprise a few people(think Antonio) when we first got him.The owners however should be thoroughly ashamed if they do indeed have a conscience.A month to get a loanee and a championship striker and no doubt all the same excuses from Sullivan as the Carvalho fiasco.Seems he doesnt give a stuff for this club when you see how much everyone else is spending to strengthen in the tightest premiership relegation dogfight for years.

    • Of course he doesn’t support WHU 64, he’s a Cardiff fan and only on board for the money. And a cheap stadium, of course.
He even mentioned in an interview whilst at Birmingham that when he left them he’d like to buy Cardiff as it’s his home town team. No mention of West Ham then, and certainly not that he was a fan.
