A report in the Sun today suggest that Swansea City have added another £15m on to the asking price of their England U21 International Alfie Mawson and the Swans now want a total package worth £40m.
The Welsh club is reluctant to sell the 23-year-old during their battle for Premier League survival and are trying to price him out of a move to London.
West Ham reportedly made a bid worth £18m and might be willing to raise that offer to £20m but £40m is way out of their budget and valuation for the defender. One option could be a straight swap for former Swansea player Andre Ayew. The Hammers paid a transfer fee close to £21m for Ayew but they might consider trading him back to get their target.
With £75m paid by Liverpool for Virgil van Dijk the bar for inflated prices appears to have been set as the silly season opens for business tomorrow.
On reflection, I wouldn’t touch Mawson with a barge pole.
He is so ,so, slow and quite cumbersome.
Shelvey would be a much better proposittion
He is slow but a solid Left footed CB but lacks pace which Rice & Ox have. Midfield must be a priority need creativity & CDM who can pass.
Would hope £40m would put an end to it but they will try & swap Ayew & pay £20m still a mistake & they will want £25m.
Moyes needs to look outside the PL or we are going to be left behind & end up w scraps at the end if Jan after everyone else has bought replacements & don’t need there overpriced fringe players.
We can sell 4 but have to remember have 21man injury prone sqaud
Moyes worries me in this window his recruitment w short term in mind hasn’t always worked well.
Alfie Mawson worth 15 million quid, tops!
