A bit like London buses – none for ages and then the offers all start to come together. The recruitment team won’t care and will most definitely be breathing easier as ‘real’ bids trickle in. Hardly has the ink dried on ‘reports’ of offers for Mohammed Kudus than another West Ham senior player is in the crosshairs of a European club keen to acquire his services.

West Ham’s most reluctant returnee this summer must be Nayef Aguerd. After a season of success at Real Sociedad the Moroccan made it clear he didn’t want to return for pre-season but really had little choice as offers to buy him remained conspicuous by their absence.

It will be interesting to see the ‘returning for preseason’ video which the club puts out every year and see Aguerd’s expression on returning to his employer’s training facility at Rush Green.  Whilst he may be ‘disappointed’ to come back to training with West Ham, for £50k a week nobody will be crying him a river.

Nayef Aguerd

Success on-loan – Nayef Aguerd -now on Marseille’s shopping list

Today’s article in getfootballnewsfrance.com makes encouraging reading and suggests that Aguerd’s days in Claret and Blue may be coming to an end:

“MARSEILLE IDENTIFY WEST HAM’S NAYEF AGUERD AS PRIORITY TARGET: West Ham United’s Nayef Aguerd (29) is a priority target for Les Phocéens. However, there are other teams abroad interested in the Moroccan centre-back. He is also earning a considerable salary at West Ham, who will have significant demands to part ways with their defender.”

Nayef Aguerd’s desire to leave London is about to be tested. Marseille affording the £20+ million to buy him is one thing, but will Aguerd  be prepared to take a pay cut to move to the south of France and leave his huge West Ham salary? Poor guy, I’ll bet he has sleepless nights ahead.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

  • Phil Baker says:

Westham should demand the 30 million paid for Aguerd and if he’s so keen to leave he can play for his new club for free . Again , if Westham were pursuing him after his superb season he’d be valued at 40 million .
