Hammers United are presumably bidding to hit the media with the latest announcements regarding their ongoing protest campaign.
We have had two announcements so far over the last few days – the first being that they would be carrying their banners ahead of the Manchester United game before a change of date and that they will now be marching ahead of Brentford.
In their latest declaration of intent they say:
We are performing so well on the pitch, we are building a strong squad and we are in Europe. If you protest now, people will take notice and your message will be heard. It is the perfect time to demonstrate.”
Pardon?
That will need a little more explanation like why exactly are they protesting – a form of complaint against which I personally have no problem in general terms if that’s people’s wish!.
At a personal level I have joined many protests – usually political and on the left – but right now it’s unclear what Hammers United are complaining about.
Whatever it is, they have claimed in the past that they are not demonstrating against the squad, just the board neatly forgetting of course that this squad has been bought and paid for by the owners along with the manager.
It also runs in the face of a Billy Bonds declaration that the protests against the board scheme back in the 90s did indeed have a bad effect on the squad.
I think Bill knows what he’s talking about.
Hammers United have their agenda and that’s fine – it’s called democracy but – beyond being jarred off we are at the London Stadium rather than the Boleyn I’m struggling to understand the complaints.
Personally I’m just very excited about what’s before us this season. End of!
