Questions over Moyes involvement in January transfers

David-Moyes-1147952West Ham Manager David Moyes told the press that he has no involvement in transfers at the moment but admitted that maybe David Sullivan and Tony Henry are speaking to some people without his knowledge

When asked about stories linking West Ham Liverpool striker Danny Ings the Scotsman replied.

“There seems to be a lot of stories going about, but the truth is I’ve not had any involvement in it at the moment. I will start to get closer involved probably in the coming weeks. But for anyone to be shouting any names up at the moment would be wrong because I’m honestly not involved with anything at the moment. Maybe Tony Henry and the Chairman are speaking to some people, but I have no idea about it at the moment that’s for sure.”

However, Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg confirmed yesterday Sullivan is meeting with Head of recruitment Tony Henry to discuss transfers. He finished his exclusive article by saying: “The phone on Sullivan’s desk is starting to ring with increasing persistence. Henry has arrived to discuss transfer plans”

  1. Sean, when are you going to give us a poll on the owners?

  2. What surprises me is that for a few successful businessmen – David’s Sullivan, Gold and Karen Brady they are seemingly failing to take the appropriate remedial action. And thats just poor business.

It does seem that a club restructuring – esp wrt transfer policy – is a clear need. Its no good telling us you work hard Mr Sullivan, I am quite sure you do – for the rewards you receive that is the minimum expected. But you need to work smarter.

The need for a Director of Football, an appropriate PR executive or firm and sundry other improved club structures are it seems a must – you can have all the aspirations to move to the next level you want but the underlying structure to support it must be in place.

    And its evident its not.

Just how is it club transfer policy is seemingly determined or could be by the family ‘begging’ Mr Sullivan not to buy 2 players! Thats plain ridiculous. (For the record I think Robert Snodgrass and Jose Fonte are fine players who were not well served by the club and the way Slav chose to integrate and play them – on behalf of at least one supporter Mr Snodgrass and Mr Fonte our apologies to you both for the crass comments over the last day).

What Mr’s Sullivan/Gold and Ms Brady seemed to have done is to try and take the club with its old and archaic structure to a new level – and totally failed to recognise the need to put appropriate management structures in place to support the growth and these new aspirations. And as a result its disintegrating around them (and us).

And just when I think this car crash of a season can get no worse David Sullivan invites open season derision on our club with his interview. Its just appalling.

I do think there is a psychological flaw with Mr Sullivan – he always has to be in the right – he always has to show he is in the right – he always has to prove it – whatever the cost – and that even means rewriting history with the benefit of hindsight.

Its this complete self belief in his unerring powers of godliness that must have got him to where he is I suppose. Just understand you made some mistakes, we all do, accept and own up and move on. No dramas.

So time for action please – stop the hole digging, please no more crass interviews aimed at self justification (it just doesn’t wash and we are not stupid), get the club and your act together, put your total support behind the manager and the players and then with a whole heap of luck – which boy do we need – we might extricate ourselves from the mess for this season and start a major rebuild over the close season.
