“Quids-in” | Palace Bound Steidten Won’t Save West Ham a Penny

West Ham will receive no financial benefit if, as expected, former director of football Tim Steidten joins Crystal Palace.

The German has been heavily linked with the role of Eagles sporting director and could move to Selhurst Park before next season.

However, reports suggesting Steidten’s move to Palace would save West Ham money in compensation are wide of the mark.

Unlike former Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui, Steidten is no longer on the club payroll, having agreed a pay-off after being sacked. It is understood that following his dismissal, Steidten negotiated a one-off payment to avoid a drawn-out settlement.

This differs from Lopetegui and his coaching staff, who continue to be paid monthly by West Ham. Should the Spaniard find new employment, the Hammers would only need to cover the salary difference, resulting in a significant saving.

Unfortunately for the club, the same does not apply to Steidten, who is free to take up his role at Crystal Palace, having already banked his Irons pay-off.
