Ratings 2: Irons at Villa Park

|

Niall hands out his marks

Fabianski: Must be nice playing behind this defence, and not many Hammers keepers have had the chance to say that! Kicking slightly nervy 7
Coufal: Brilliant again – didn’t fall for any of Grealish’s antics, forcing him to move flanks to get any sort of freedom 9
Ogbonna: Will be annoyed at being drawn out of position by Watkins once 8
Dawson: Some great blocks and lapped up the very average crosses from Villa 8
Cresswell: Looking better and better, found a great balance of attack and defence 8
Rice: Didn’t give his England colleague Barkley a sniff and say him subbed 8
Soucek: A ruthless finish for another goal 8
Fredericks: Give him his due, supported Coufal really well and made some fine attacking forays 7 (a record score, i think)
Lingard: Well I didn’t remember him being this good. Outstanding from the first minute 10
Benrahma: Superb through-ball to Soucek for his goal. Great application to help Cresswell in defence 8
Antonio: Denied a deserved goal by Mings’ amazing clearance. Looking fitter than ever 8

Subs
Fornals: Straight into the action, typically enthusiastic 5
Johnson: 5 mins of man-to-man marking on Grealish  No rating
Bowen: Briefest of run-outs in stoppage time  No rating

Would have given Fredericks an 8 also he caused them a lot of problems but other than that Niall completely agree we were a real threat, hopefully can maintain that push against Fulham on Saturday COYI!!!

  • George Green says:

Playing a right sided player as a winger meant that crosses came in from the by line instead of Bowen cutting in .No argument that Bowen is a better player butter he has been jaded and the line up meant that Coufal could stay back more to take.care of Grealish.
8 for Lingard and 3 to the Villa keeper for enabling the Lingard goals with his feeble keeping.

‘I didn’t remember him being this good’! That’s because he wasn’t. But he is now 🙂

I think you are harsh on Fredericks. He helped contain Grealish and still manged to get forward. Started to tire near the end but really good overall. 8
