The name of Sami Omorodian has become high profile in the last few days. The raw young striker was apparently a big target for West Ham United earlier in the window. Negotiations had been ongoing between The Irons and Athletico Madrid to try and bring him to the London Stadium.
The imposing 1.93 metre Nigerian-born centre forward looked to have slipped through Steidten and Lopetegui’s grasp, however – the young striker switched agents and suddenly everything changed. Chelsea appeared during West Ham’s negotiations and it appeared that any hope West Ham had of attracting the Olympic Gold Medal winner (He has dual Spain – Nigerian Citizenship) to sign for us had evaporated following Chelsea’s emergence on the scene.
Until yesterday. Chelsea appeared on the brink of signing him – which begs the question of how much game time the twenty year old was actually expecting at Stamford Bridge with a squad numbering in the forties?
Yesterday possibilities of Chelsea loaning him straight to West Ham were aired- which produced a flurry of comments on the C and H site about PL rules and loaning.
Whatever the reason behind it, apparently according to Fabrizio Romano, on his X page today, the deal with Chelsea is ‘ 100% off’.
Take a look at the cryptic message attached to the X tweet though:
‘Serious Chances to join another club in the next days’. From our previous interest in the player and ability to move fast in the transfer market, he could most definitely be considered a Jhon Duran alternative: Loaned out to Alavés in La Liga last season the young, fast Nigerian scored 9 times in 35 starts.
Serious contender as a loan to buy option? Or straight purchase? Nothing would surprise me this window. Give me Omorodion over Tammy Abraham with his injury record.
Tantalisingly, we will wait and report back. Lopetegui is a known admirer – and West Ham were in the bidding with Athletico Madrid some weeks ago
The deal with Chelsea was £34.5M, collapsed due to unspecified contract issues. Gallagher was going the other way.
That’s the sort of fee that would be involved.
Was thinking of this opportunity when the move to Chelsea collapsed. Athletico have purchased both Sørloth and Alvares (confirmed today), with the latter being around 100m total package.
Straight swap give them aguerd and zouma and throw in ings, as well for omorodian that a fair deal in my book.
Nice thought that we could offer aguerd in a swap deal as athletico Madrid were interested in him.I would prefer wahi from lens he’s more experienced with a superior goal scoring record and is available for £25m
Looks like he’s on his way to Marseilles.
Contract issues usually means agents got greedy and wanted too much…
Chelski had Duran deal set to be signed but he turned it down again game time an issue…..much as i dislike the Spuds i want to see Chelski crash and burn the way they hoover up players and put them on stupid contracts is a cancer in the game…get them found guilty throw them out of the league……and on the player well much better choice than Abrahams IMO
I so much hope we sign him, he is a proper West Ham type of player, gives 100% puts himself about and is a nightmare to defend against. I think he and Fullkrug could also be a great pairing in games where we are chasing goals because they give us the option to go direct with long balls out from defence. We really need to start selling some players though, JWP, Soucek, Ings, Cornet, Coufal, Aguerd maybe although would keep Aguerd and use him as CB and left back cover if we can’t sell him.
no chance of a loan
athleti need money after spending big on alvarez, it’s the only reason they finally decided to drop their demands
remember we sent out best offer which was rejected, we moved on after that – no point trying to negotiated once your hard limit has been rejected
but that all changed with alvarez who is now seen as athleti future striker, samu is now no where near as important and as such is now one a viable option to balance the books
i can see athleti asking about that original offer, the only question is do we have the available to make it happen – we might need to move another player out
