Record case numbers

|
  1. The Premier League has confirmed that there has been a record number of positive COVID cases over the past week, per BBC Sport.

The league announced that they had returned 90 positive cases a week ago but that number has now been outstripped, with 103 cases in the last seven days from 15,186 tests.

The tests were taken between December 20th and Boxing Day and not just by players, but also by coaching staff at the clubs.

In mid-December, there were 42 positive cases, while there were 12 in the first weeks of December.

There have been a number of games called off due to a spike in COVID cases as a result of the new Omicron variant.

Fifteen games have been called off in total, with Liverpool v Leeds, Wolves v Watford, and Burnley v Everton all called off on Boxing Day as a result of rising cases, while Crystal Palace saw a request to postpone their game against Spurs rejected by the league’s board.
