Redemption for Paqueta

This was the night that Brazil arrived at the 2024 Copa America.

Four goals — including two from Vinicius Junior — and West Ham‘s Lucas Paqueta stepping up to convert a penalty after horribly shanking a first-half attempt  capped a successful night in Las Vegas for Brazil.

Later on in the game there was anouther penalty awarded and shades of that infamous Di Canio and Lampard, Bradford City incident threatened to take over.

Rodrygo initially took control of the ball, seemingly ready to take the kick. However, the drama unfolded as Vinicius Jr., Lucas Paqueta, and Eder Militao all approached, expressing their interest in taking the penalty.

This situation was particularly intriguing as Vinicius Jr. stood on the cusp of a hat-trick, making him a natural choice for the spot kick.

Remarkably, Vinicius Jr. displayed exceptional sportsmanship. Instead of insisting he took it, the team collectively decided to offer Paqueta a chance at redemption after he missed an earlier penalty.

While some fans voiced their disapproval, Vinicius Jr. calmed them down. Bruno Guimaraes further solidified the team spirit by offering Paqueta words of encouragement and even two kisses on the head for good luck.

Stepping up to the challenge, Paqueta successfully converted the penalty, restoring Brazil’s three-goal lead.
