Redknapp Anderson prediction will rile Irons fans

|

Jamie Redknapp sometimes has a habit of going just one step too far and will infuriate Hammers fans with his latest prediction as a result.

Yes, he’s paid to be controversial but I guess, given the family connection, he has more than a passing interest in us and likely future events at the club.

He has made his opinions about the future of certain players – Declan Rice included – clear in the past and has now turned his attention to another who looks set to become a superstar at the London Stadium.

He’s been a fan of Felipe Anderson since he arrived at the club but doesn’t think he’ll be around too long should he have a big season.

What Jamie seems to misunderstand that with the likes of Rice, Diop and no doubt Fornals and Haller set to become big players, this is a club on a march to join the top outfits and no longer one to be seen as a feeder outfit for them.

However instead of perhaps taking a more positive approach on our behalf Redknapp says in an article for the Daily Mail“My spies at West Ham have raved about Anderson’s pre-season performances.

Those who work with him day in, day out say he is in red-hot form. The Brazilian is a superstar in waiting and I expect we’ll see that side of him this season.

“After losing Marko Arnautovic to the Chinese Super League, West Ham have a void to fill in attack.

“They have signed Sebastien Haller for £45m but I also think Anderson, who cost £36m when he joined from Lazio last summer, is capable of reaching that next level.

“Sorry West Ham fans, but I think we’ll see Anderson enjoy a stand-out season and that big clubs will come calling with £60m-plus bids next summer.”

If he spent more attention to his own family life rather than trying to stir us fans up he might not have split up.

No idea why we are concerned with this. I think Jamie is spot on. I would be delighted if he scores 15 goals for us this season and has 15 assists and I would be delighted to see bids in the region of 70-90m for him. What I would not like to see is him having a poor season and no one is interested in him. We need Anderson to be at his best this season and if he is then we have a chance of doing well. Jamie is a good lad, honest pundit and imo one of the best on TV. I have no issue with him as he is spot on with his comment here. If we do receive offers for Anderson then it will be done to management to convince him his future is with West Ham. And this is where I come back to our summer transfers – I believe we needed 3 more quality signings to get the job done this year and finish in the top 7 and qualify for Europe. The consequence of not doing this is exactly what Jamie is saying and here lies what I have been trying to say all summer we needed to invest in more quality signings to keep our best players long term.

I completely concur. If we have a superb season and qualify for Europe and he is at the heart of it, there’s every reason for him to stay. If he leaves for say £80m, that’s damn good business and we move on.

Surely we want ALL of our players to be fantastic and improve their worth?

But he is not wrong is he.unless we challange top 6 and cups
but if we don’t and some players have very good seasons then bigger clubs will be after them .anyone who thinks rice will be here in 1 maybe 2 years the way he is progressing is delueded unless we win something. And that goes for other clubs best players as well

So what? These ‘experts’ obviously don’t watch the clubs they comment on. Anderson has been OK in pre-season but hasn’t been red hot. Redknapp is clearly phoning it in to line his pockets.

If Anderson has a fantastic season then let they bids come in, as long as we take the Leicester approach and don’t sell unless a team really wants him and are prepared to pay well over the odds. Maguire at 27 going for 80m will distort the market even more.

I think as fans, we must believe that if we sell a player, it will be reinvested in making the squad stronger. Anderson has to kick on this season to stand out because he’ll have competition from several others to be our star player.

Reality check, our best players will move on at some point unless West Ham move up a level while they are at the club.

Weak reporting Hugh. With the season starting tomorrow I thought you would have a better piece to write about? I think Jamie is purely stating his opinion which you do regularly on this site. He also happens to be talking sense. If Anderson pushes on this season and we do not qualify for Europe he might want to move on, at a profit to the club. I personally hope he and the club do well this season and as a fan I will get right behind him.

    • It’s not reporting mate it’s a comment – maybe a weak one but there’s a difference. Given I created the site of course I will comment. The point is Jamie is regularly making similar comments about other players and thus may have an agenda as I attempted to imply. Thanks for your views however

Like others I will be delighted if he shows his full potential but would say an offer of £150m would probably reflect that as he is already better than Coutinho who cost £142m 18 months ago. With high quality technical players occupying 8 of our 11 positions there is no reason he shouldn’t have that standout season. Good luck Felipe COYI!!!
