Reece Oxford deal hits a hitch

Reece Oxford’s £4m move to Augsburg remains in the balance reports Jacob Steinberg in the Guardian.

The 20-year-old defender spent the second half of last season on loan with the Bundesliga club, but there are issues over personal terms to resolve before the transfer is finalised. A source close to the deal rated the chances of it being completed as 50-50.

As Claret and Hugh have revealed before the Hammer has a 4 million Euro (£3.5m) option with Augsburg but were yet to activates.

Reece Oxford is one of the highest paid Academy players on £20,000 per week and possibly that is a sticking point on agreeing personal terms with the 20-year-old.

Oxford’s agent, Aidy Ward is known to be a hard negotiator and has a bit of a reputation in the football industry. It appears that Oxford’s departure is far from being signed and sealed just yet.  Oxford is contracted with the Hammers until June 2021.

  1. Fed up of this one dragging on. Give him away with a large sell on clause.
