Reid deal a “priority”

winston-reid-west-ham-united_3009997West Ham are planning urgent contract talks with Winston Reid as soon as the season comes to an end.

With just a year left on his deal at the end of this season, the club are keen to tie the Kiwi down to a new long term contract.

Reid has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks but the club insist there have been no formal approaches.

The club, as reported elsewhere on the site today,  have several players coming out of contract this summer but a new Reid deal has been placed at the top of their priority list.

The central defender is just returning to top form as he showed against Liverpool on Sunday after a 12-week ankle injury.

He took full advantage of James Collins’ injury setback to impress at the heart of defence with James Tomkins.

The club are keen to make him a top offer and set him up with another three year deal minimum.

A well placed source told us: “With a year left on his deal it’s important to start talks as soon as possible and we will deal with this as a priority.”
