The long serving defender suffered a knee injury against Swansea last seasonand remains in a knee brace.

Issuing a report on the New Zealander head of medical Richard Collinge said: “Winston Reid is in a knee brace and he’s eight weeks down the line from his surgery and making good progress.

“He’s going to be a little bit longer, but he’s also making good progress.

Collinge also updated on Nottingham Forest loanee Sam Byram’s position after he limped off injured after 39 minutes in their Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle United.

He said: “Sam Byram had surgery this week after his incident while on loan at Nottingham Forest which went to the surgeon’s liking and, other than that, we’ll always carry a few knocks and niggles but we will have them in the best condition possible for the weekend game at Goodison Park.
