Iron’s options shorten

A new report claims that recently released West Ham star Winston Reid will not be moving to A-League club Wellington Phoenix.

The defender has seen his contract terminated by the Hammers and he is now on the hunt for a new club.

Wellington, though, have decided against making a swoop for the central defender, and they will be looking to add a younger player to their ranks as they look to finalise their squad.

Reid would have to take a huge pay cut in order to play for a club in Australia or New Zealand, due to his Premier League salary with the Hammers.

The central defender is, of course, the captain of the New Zealand national team but has never played in his native country, having come through the ranks with Midtjylland in Denmark.

He has also spent the past few seasons out on loan, first with Sporting Kansas City and then with Brentford, although neither opted to make a permanent move.
