Reid/Arsenal link takes Paulista bash!

Reid scoresWinston Reid’s Arsenal prospects look near dead in the water as the Gunners continue talks aimed at signing Gabriel Paulista.

Arsene Wenger hopes of signing the player hang on the La Liga outfit Villareal accepting £6 million with add-ons to take the fee potentially to beyond £10m.

Villareal want 20 million euros but should the clubs come to an agreement the Gunners need to clinch a work permit on  “exceptional talent” grounds as Paulista has not yet represented Brazil.

However, ClaretandHugh has learned Paulista was at the emirates today and that the Gunners remain confident gthey can make the deal happen.

The north Londoners are negotiating  hard for the player to the exclusion of Reid who currently looks out in the cold as far as potential interest is concerned.

And even were Wenger to fail in his Paulista swoop it now seems unlikely that he would come in for Reid – who would become very much a second or third option.

But with no hint of that happening it appears that Reid’s hopes of a move to one of the “big” clubs is fading by the day

  1. It really is time for David Sullivan to reduce the amount of money on the table for Reid. He should up the ante as Reid’s options diminish.

  2. I think BFS could be right on this one and he has no intention of going till the summer when he will be free and him and his agent will pick up a extra 1 million each for signing on and saving Arsenal 3 million,

  3. All this seems to be yet more rubbish reporting from the biased big club press!

IMO it has never been about a fee ( why would you pay a fee now when you can sign him for free in the summer),
but whether Reid can play enough football, ie bring the ball out from the back well enough to warrant risking some £60 grand a week.
