Relegation rivals’ 95th minute stumble that changed everything | West Ham News

IT WOULD be churlish not to appreciate the quality of Xavi Simons’ 78th minute goal that put relegation rivals Tottenham ahead against Brighton this evening: It was a curling right foot shot that cannoned in off the post to steer Tottenham towards their first win of this calendar year and heave them back above West Ham and out of the drop zone.

Briefly.

For long periods it seemed the game would end in a 1-1 stalemate which would have kept the Hammers in 17th spot; but then Simons put Spurs ahead and briefly West Ham were back in the drop zone:

As it stood in the 77th minute: – Hammers back in 18th

But Tottenham being Tottenham, they simply couldn’t hold onto a lead and Brighton equalised in the 95th minute, dropping Spurs back into the relegation zone, now one point behind West Ham . With more turns than a Snake slalom, this Premier League relegation battle took another twist as Tottenham’s lead was cancelled out : I was punching the air as if West Ham had just won a cup tie and Tottenham STILL  haven’t won a Premier League game this year. Wonderful.

West Ham one point ahead now with a game in hand. Win on Monday and there’s clear claret and blue water between the Hammers and Spurs. Another massive game ahead then.

How it finished – West Ham back in 17th and one point ahead of Spurs

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

I don’t even like Brighton, but yes I whooped at their late equaliser. Needs must. I would even cheer an Arsenal goal or win if it helped us stay up. And that takes some doing and emotional upheaval, because most weeks I support West Ham and then whoever is playing Arsenal.

I celebrated the Brighton goals like they were West Ham goals too. I didn’t think spurs were worthy of a win either, despite the flukey Simmons goal that deflected in off the post. Sorry for being churlish lol.

Fortunate thing for us that Brighton equalised so late on, we need to take something at Palace now as Forest are highly likely to get at least a point if not all three at home to Burnley.

All of Leeds, Tottenham and Forest winning would have been a disaster.

Squeaky bum time but Brighton gave us a result just (win would have been better but mustn’t be greedy).
Thought Brighton were vulnerable at times.
More than once 4 Brighton players circled 1 Spurs playerer.
Playing out from the back wasn’t over successful.
    Need 3pts from Palace game.

You wasn’t the only one to be punching the air when Brighton equalised. It’s the first time in my life I’ve supported the seagulls. Come on you Irons
