Waiting for definitive news from the club over the news broken this afternoon by talksport is frustrating but par for the course: West Ham do like to have all their ducks in a row and a successor signed up before terminating a manager’s contract, if past history is anything to go by.
From Lopetegui’s stressed and exhausted demeanour, it is clear both his work and his personal situation these last few weeks has taken its toll. The whole situation needs clearing up: Many are reporting he’s been sacked. We just hope West Ham’s board finish the whole sorry saga with an element of dignity and professionalism.
I’m sure Lopetegui is a very decent man who is just out of his depth and this reported ‘end of the line’ will be a relief for him as much as it is for those of us that support, follow and write about the club.
Looking forward, the first thought that came to mind was that, amongst the opportunities and challenges for Lopetegui’s successor, several of the players who’d been unwilling or not chosen to play for Lopetegui can now as a matter of urgency be integrated back into the squad and the new coach, when appointed officially, can draw the team together into one unit.
No more bust-ups, no more face-offs, and no more want-away players. The opportunity to be selected on merit not on club politics must come as a huge relief to the ‘want away’ rumoured players such as Mohammed Kudus, Jean Clair Todibo, Niclas Fullkrug, Edson Alvarez all of whom had been rumoured to want out.
In addition, players such as Luis Guilherme and Crysencio Summerville will now have far greater opportunities to start under a new coach with a fresh pair of eyes.
By drawing the players into a cemented ‘team’ the ‘new broom’ head coach who we believe is on the way, will certainly sweep clean at West Ham. Hopefully the announcement will be made in the next day or so. If not by the time I’ve finished typing this.
I’ll drink a mug of tea to that.
Lopetegui knew exactly what he was doing every step of the way, and at no point did he ever give a damn about West Ham United. Comforted by £6M, that was all he needed. Let’s face it, he stands to make more money from this mess than most fans earn in a lifetime, so don’t waste too much time feeling sorry for him.
This is what’s needed a team to play as a team.
If a new manager allows them to gel and get permanent positions regularly great.
Don’t need prema donors, ego getters (Duran) just a team playing for each other.
This situation still seems to be as clear as mud and I fear that some sites may have been a bit premature reporting the manager had been sacked.
BBC reported 1 hour ago that West Ham are considering whether to sack Julian Lopetegui following Saturdays’ home defeat at Manchester City. They state Hammers sources have denied Lopetegui has already been dismissed but accept the manager is under huge pressure.
Ex also contacted a top senior source asking if reports of Lopeteguis sacking were true. He replied that “Not true but on borrowed time”.
I understand there are bound to be conflicting reports when the situation changes quickly but this is getting embarrassing now.
Don’t underestimate the ability of Sullivan to shoot himself in the foot, he is the king of psychodrama, I won’t believe he is gone until I see it on the official website.
No one is questioning Lopetegui as a human being, just he’s not a Premier League manager. Not a massive fan of Jamie Carragher, but as he just said on Monday night Football, in view of the spankings received by three goals or more, he thought West Ham would have acted a month ago – so did we !!
These are the among the reasons why once something is obvious it’s best to cut it short asap.
It’s plain that Lopetegui put noses out of joint.
A fresh start asap prevents slow downward spirals.
We really have had the worst of all worlds, a poor appointment and then dally in rectifying it. Maximum possible damage.
Martin I think that’s what most of us have been thinking for a long time. I think we have to give Loppy the respect he deserves working in high pressure job while having the personal pain of losing his father, but him leaving is the right decision for the club and although he may not see it yet for him too.
Let’s hope Potter is given a bit more time before we are reading about how he wasn’t preferred choice and how he’s not good enough and how we need to get him out.
Don’t get ahead of ourselves this is westham and sully your talking about loppo not going anywhere smoke screens again from our board of no truths
