Journalist friend of Claret and Hugh, Darren Lewis claims ‘Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been offered to West Ham’.
Writing in the Daily Mirror, Lewis writes : ‘The confirmation that the 22-year-old attacker is available this summer is sure to spark a scramble for his services.’
Oxlade-Chamberlain has 24 caps for England and last scored for the Three Lions in their European Championship qualifying win over Lithuania in October. Yet he is unlikely to go to this summer’s European Championships after being hit by a knee injury suffered in the Champions League last-16 first leg defeat to Barcelona.
He moved to north London in a high-profile switch from Southampton in 2011. The England international was seen back than as one of the most exciting talents in the country.
But he has had to compete with a starting spot at Arsenal with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla.
The genesis of this latest rumour originated in the Brentwood Gazette back in March when they suggested the Hammers were lining up a £15m move for the gunner. That doesn’t automatically mean the interest is not real though. The law of averages suggest they must get one of two right one day.
I seem to remember the Jenkinson affair. Didn’t exactly work out well for us either on the pitch or on the books.Beware of Gooners bearing gifts.
The David’s won’t look at injury prone players. We’re beyond taking high profile risks.
