Report: Benrahma joins West Ham on loan

The Guardian are reporting that Said Benrahma will West Ham on loan following problems with his medical.

They claim the 25-year-old Brentford winger has joined West Ham on a season long loan, because the two clubs apparently don’t have time to complete the necessary paperwork to make the deal permanent before the 5pm deadline.

West Ham will be obliged to buy at the end of the deal and the fee arranged earlier today was £25m rising to £30m with add-ons.

Sky Sports News agrees saying ‘It is understood the terms of the deal remain under discussion and Benrahma could join West Ham initially on loan, with the Hammers having an obligation to buy’

Moyes refused to elaborate on any further details on the medical, but remained optimistic that the transfer would be completed before Friday’s 5pm deadline.

“He hasn’t failed his medical and we are still hopeful that something can be done later today possibly, but I just can’t guarantee that at this moment in time,” the West Ham manager said at his news conference on Friday afternoon.

“It’s one of those things that you don’t talk about people’s medicals because that’s something that has to be done and it’s private as it would be for anybody. So, I am not going to discuss his medical but we still have hope that we can get it done today. These things happen in football they happen all the time – but we’ll see.”

Claret and Hugh have yet to receive verification that a loan deal has been agreed between the two parties with less than an hour before the transfer deadline. This could be another false dawn.  One source suggested the report is slightly premature but that both parties were still working towards a loan deal before the 5 pm deadline. It could be touch and go whether terms for a loan can be agreed.

  1. Just how much more or less paperwork is there between a loan and permanent transfer?

  2. Then first thing Monday morning they finish the permanent deal so that it takes effect at 12:01am on 1 January. This whole thing is nonsense.

    • Maybe that bloods have to be sorted/redone before the finance (and insurance) can be confirmed. Just like I need to know the structural survey is OK before I get my mortgage. So, if I want to move in now, I rent for a month. Then when mortgage is approved after satisfactory survey report, I can ‘buy’.
      Makes perfect sense!

  3. I’ll believe it when it’s on the O/S

  4. Disingenuous headline. The headline is false and designed to attract attention when the first line says, ‘ The Guardian are reporting that Said Benrahma will West Ham on loan following problems with his medical’.

  5. Only a loan for paper purposes. If were obliged to buy then its effectively a permanent anyway.

  6. Looks like we’ve missed the boat on both of those, the window is closed and no official announcements – Oh dear, as the Kaiser Chiefs once said, I predict a riot!

  7. On Loan with the obligation to buy !. A difficult deal by all accounts due to a blood test . I can understand how that would throw a spanner into the works . Hopefully we shall still want him when the time comes to complete the obligation . He definitely looks like a good deal but let’s see how He settles into the Premiership .

  8. Great bit of business not signing king for 18 million. Now we just wait ten weeks and get him on a free transfer in the Jan window. Hopefully we preagreed that with him during discussions and haven’t tossed him around too much otherwise he’ll go elsewhere and we missed our chance.

  9. nothings changed, we were trying for a permanent deal, which for some reason has failed.
THEN we agree to a season long loan WITH an obligation to buy, so whats the difference in the original permanent deal, nothing.
if we took him on a season loan WITHOUT the obligation to buy, that would have at least made sense, and given us a bit of insurance if he was to break down.
