From today’s Sunday Times comes an article claiming that The West Ham United Board are meeting next week to discuss Julen Lopetegui’s future. It is behind their paywall but you can read it for yourself. I’ve attached the headline. All very different to the story provided by our own high-ranking source at the club who claims that Lopetegui’s results need to improve but certainly did NOT admit to any such meeting next week.
Our understanding is that Lopetegui will have the whole of the international break plus. plus..plus.. as the board give him time to improve results.
The article in the Sunday Times, written by Tom Allnutt, details:
“The West Ham United majority shareholder David Sullivan and the technical director Tim Steidten will meet next week to discuss the future of Julen Lopetegui after the head coach’s poor start.
The club will not rush into a decision over Lopetegui’s position, with the international break seen as a chance to take stock after the team’s disappointing season so far. They have won only three of their first 11 Premier League games and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.”
So, for the benefit of our readers, we will be asking our high ranking source at West Ham whether there is any truth in the ‘board to meet next week to discuss Lopetegui’s future’ claim. We’ll let you know of the response.
Awful and terrible at the same time, he’s got to go.
English or British get better communication across with passion, not foreign (I’m half Italian so it’s just better. Get a Pierce of a man who can do and listen to players best usage in right position.
Don’t wait, it’s painful
Just because JLo is hard to understand, it doesn’t mean we have to 🏴/ 🇬🇧
Great examples of 2 managers that speak concisely, are able to get instructions and their methods easily across to the players are 👇
Fabian Hürzeler 🇩🇪 (think was on Tim’s list)
Arnie Slot 🇳🇱
I just want the best coach that can align with Tim!
I’d say Liverpool & Brighton are doing pretty well this season without an English / British coach
I fully agree Lopetegui should be dismissed asap but I would like an interim manager appointed until the end of the season. Why? Firstly, I don’t trust Sullivan to make a decent informed decision as his past record is deplorable. Secondly, current Manager’s and Coaches availablity will be small and limited but come the end of the season other more high profile applicant’s could become available. What’s undeniable is that Sullivan is not to be trusted on manager/coach appointments and it’s an utter mess and the player’s have already checked out.
An afterthought, not sure who viable it would be but can you imagine Mark Noble as interim manager with Nolan (can’t think what his christian name) and a new reassemble backroom staff. At least we get some passion back and it would revitalise the player’s for the second half of the season. Can you think of any other candidates as it’s too early in the morning for my brain to work!
I think Mark Robbins would do a good job down proven manger that had to deal with no money and youth players when he 1st started at cov fed up of hearing about unproven foreign managers getting em on the cheap
Very risky to go with Noble & Nolan.
Got the upmost respect for both of them. True leaders on the pitch and amazing captains for the club.
We don’t need Prem “proven” as that remit has been one of the biggest reasons for repeated failure.
We just need someone that is going to work in tandem with Tim. Doesn’t have to be a big name.
Sully should have stuck to selling dildos and porn mags and left football to football people. United showed what a proper club does last weekend when they got rid of ten Haag.
Man Utd also made the grave error though of not getting rid of Ten Hag at the end of last season. At least they admitted their mistake and have seen positive results straight away.
Man Utd players didn’t look like they trusted Ten Hag and were constantly played out of position in ever changing formations.
This is exactly what JLo does and both managers were terrible in front of the media.
Man Utd are now only 4 points off a Champions League spot having made the switch.
We are only 7 points off a European spot! That is exactly why we need to switch now and aim high.
Moyes, Benitez and Potter are not the answer tho!
You need a board meeting to decide to stick with him or not? have they not been to the games? we have been abysmal, not one positive in the way we play, my worry is who comes in next.
Brentford, Fulham, Bournemouth and Brighton all have managers that play the way we need to, the oldest squad in the league with a youth player nowhere to be seen….
If there isn’t such a meeting there should be one. There’s no sign at all of anything improving, if anything there’s deterioration and the fans have comprehensively been lost. There’s a serious question as to whether at least some of the players have been lost too. Is there anything that looks positive, please tell me if there is as I’m not seeing it. I’m seeing us not playing until the 25th and I’m thinking that it’s an ideal time to twist…
I cannot but think that finishing only two places higher pays severences.
The time is right to make a change.
The longer Sullivan leaves it, the more chance we will be in a relegation fight and he will have to go cap in hand to Moyes!!!
Do it tomorrow and pay the geezer off and get someone who can make probably the best squad we have had for years perfom!
I don’t want Lopetegui to stay but it is concerning that the same person who picked him will be picking the next manager.
According to a piece from Jacob Steinberg in the Guardian, Sullivan is not a fan of Graham Potter. He’s probably the only one I’d take that meets Sullivan’s criteria of being unemployed and having PL experience.
Genuinely wouldn’t be shocked to see Rafa Benitez being pursued. Or a third appointment of Moyes.
None of the 3 mentioned are the answer IMO.
Sully’s criteria has never worked. Time we had a new vision and strategy with Sully removed from the interview process.
Owners don’t make the best decisions sometimes which is why CEO’s are installed to make critical decisions.
Sully has to place his trust in Tim. It’s what needs to happen if we are to move forward. If the next 3 years don’t work out operating this way, Tim loses his job, Sully still owns the club and we appoint a new Director of Football.
Ask your high ranking official to watch Wan Bissaka when his number goes up to be subbed, and then how when (he eventually) walked off he purposely walks off away from having to go past the manager. That along with the manager waving his arms and screaming continually at the defence in the first half to step up and they ignore him. The players have checked out with him and that in itself makes his position impossible and the owners should see this and get rid now before we are stuck in a relgation battle and no new manager wants to take that on
Agree. He has lost the players and cannot therefore turn this around. Kudus has squared up to him, he hooks 3 players at half time every other week which shows his mistakes at the starting line up and turns players against you when its constant. Bowen as captain should be informing the board what the players think, like Noble would. The longer we leave the change to hope it works when it clearly won’t just loses us a choice of manager next. This international break is the right time to cut our losses and have a chance of attracting someone new who could turn the season around. Don’t make the change now and relgation battle with players not suited for that will follow, with no one wanting the job. Such a vital moment for strong leadership this week but we all know we have tight owners so we are screwed.
We can all see JLo doesn’t have the confidence of the players, the fans and I’m pretty sure Sullivan & Tim know this themselves.
TBF to Sully he couldn’t publicly give a vote of no confidence leading up to Everton. Now it’s painfully clear and striking him right between the eyes!
There is a repeated but &/or and at the end of this……
JLo has failed to get much improvement from any individual player or team as a whole since the beginning of the season. That alone is reason to sack him. It is not only about 11 EPL games and 2x LC rounds. It is also pre-season, albeit that was disjointed due to the multiple transfer ins/outs.
But……he has to work with what he has got……..and there lies the big question. Who is the prime decision maker in who we have brought in….and to a degree whom we have let go.
Sully/Steidten/Lopetegui…….??
Tobido, Kilman ( too expensive) and Wan Bissaka are decent acquisitions.
Soler and Rodriguez definitely not.
Summerville, best of the lot imho.
Fulkrug……given his age/experience had to hit the road running👎
Guilherme……..his cameo on Saturday was ok but given he has been given so little time has to be a 👎 at this very moment but that may prove to be unfair.
Who is responsible for all of this? Particularly Soler, Rodriguez, Fullkrug and Rodriguez
I’d say 3?of them are JLo’s and one is Tim’s (albeit a reluctant choice due to money constraints)
Tim normally profiles young, dynamic players with a sell on value. Don’t forget he lured KDB to Werder Bremen from Chelsea. Most of the players he bought at Leverkusen also are being admired by bigger clubs for large profit margins.
I don’t believe Soler and Rodriguez fit the normal type of player due to both age and his data driven approach.
Sully is meeting Tim to discuss if JLo remains? 🤣
Sully never listened to Tim regarding appointing JLo or we would never had to endure this farcical situation in the first place.
Why is Sully going to listen to Tim now? JLo already according to the Times has thrown Tim under the bus, desperately trying to implicate him for his own abject failure.
JLo has to go immediately! Surely the managers Tim would have suggested as a contingency plan for replacing Moyes have already been contacted.
Sully just needs to meet Tim, hold his hands up and admit he got it epically wrong and then tell Tim to go out and get the best manager at the top of his original list.
Adios JLo ✈️ 🧳
There is two points difference between the same teams Westham played last season so why would anybody think bringing back Moyes would benefit the club. Get somebody with a bit of flair but that’s beyond Sullivan.
He’ll no to Moyes returning! 🤬🤬🤬
Time and again we have dithered then made the wrong choice because of money. Signing centre forwards has been the most recent example, and it’s short sighted as it ends up costing us dearly. Sadly we face the latest trauma decision – Lop has no clear plan and appears to have lost the dressing room as well as us in the crowd. 60k devoted fans are not wrong, Mr S, so stop fretting about compo and change the manager please or we will be playing Oxford next year.
The sooner this clown is sacked the better. We are worse than last season under moyes
Martin can you please stop referring to a “high ranking source”. I, for one, am willing to believe that any report you get from the club will be from a trusted source whom you believe to be reliable, otherwise you wouldn’t post it – would you?
I’ll let Gonzo answer that one tomorrow. We do it for good reason, John.
Sean Wheatstone is not classed as a high ranking source….I have higher ranking sources than that…..or are you just repeating rubbish from a mate of Sully’s? Isn’t that just what C&H do nowadays?
It wouldn’t surprise me if Sean’s source was Brady 🤦♂️ Most of his articles are very pro Sully & Brady.
The time is right to make a change.
The longer Sullivan leaves it, the more chance we will be in a relegation fight and he will have to go cap in hand to Moyes!!!
Do it tomorrow and pay the geezer off and get someone who can make probably the best squad we have had for years perfom!
The board must get rid of this manager, the results are not suitable under him, he will go before the next fixture bring back moyes.
I’m not even sure Everton would take Moyes! Why would they want a brand new stadium next season, new ambitious owners only to watch the most boring football possible?
Let Moyes replace Glasner at Palace and save us from losing the will to live!
Glasner would be a decent appointment for us if he does get the push. But our fans would be in meltdown at the idea of appointing someone that had just been sacked by Palace.
Hoeness prevented Stuttgart 2 seasons ago from getting relegated which shows he can turnaround players devoid of confidence.
The following season he took them to 2nd in the Bundesliga ahead of much bigger clubs equipped with much larger budgets.
This shows he obviously has excellent coaching skills with a full season of players buying in to his methods and tactics.
We were crying out for this type of coach before we went for JLo!
His credentials make him a superb choice! We missed Amorin, let’s not miss out on a manager being talked about as highly as him.
how do the players we have compare to the squad he had at Stuttgart? can they play the way he likes to set his team up? if that’s possible, then we should grow some ⚽⚽ and go for it
As their players are not household names I can’t compare them to our squad. He plays a variety of different systems. It’s the fact he took a team staring relegation in the face and transformed them that appeals to me.
JLo and Moyes can’t work with Tim. I’m hoping this wouldn’t be the case with Hoeness. Tim would know if he interviewed him I guess.
