Report: Brereton Diaz update

Ben Brereton Diaz has long been a potential target for West Ham this summer.

The Hammers have kept a close eye on the Chile international and identified him as a potential backup target to Armando Broja at Chelsea.

There is also interest in Sassuolo’s Gianluca Scamacca and it now appears that Brereton Diaz could well end up staying at Blackburn Rovers.

The Chilean version of AS reports that there has been no offer for Brereton Diaz yet from any club and that it looks very likely that he’ll remain with the second-tier club for another season at least.

There was also interest from a variety of foreign clubs but they haven’t made an offer either.

Blackburn’s asking price is around £12.6m, and no club has yet stepped up to match that price.

Brereton Diaz was in excellent form for Blackburn last season, scoring 22 goals, but the club were unable to push on to finish in the play-offs.

With the Hammers focusing on Broja and Scamacca, this one has the ring of truth to it.

  1. So we’re after other strikers does this mean the Borja chase is over ?

  2. It’s all smoke and mirrors but there is a worrying trend that Leeds, Fulham, Villa, Everton and even Brentford now are plucking all the low hanging fruit whilst we hold out for Broja and bloody Lingard.

  3. If the price is only 12.6m for a proven international am sure he won’t be there long, wouldn’t be disappointed if we signed BBD & KLP as they both look like they could step up

  4. If that price of £12.5 million is correct that is very cheap for a striker, particularly an international one.
