FOLLOWING ON from reports earlier in the season, West Ham have again been linked with a former Premier League striker now plying his trade in the Championship.

Judging from the ‘comments’ made to Claret and Hugh at the time, most West Ham fans are nonplussed by the idea of bringing Norwich frontman Josh Sargent back to the Premier League.

However, the Hammers have to find goals from somewhere – Niclas Fullkrug and Callum Wilson have five West Ham goals between them which is hardly placing the club in good stead for the second half of the season. An accomplished Championship-level goal scorer, Sargent struggled with Norwich in their last spell in the top tier.

However, clearly the Hammers see something in his play that is drawing them back: According to footballinsider247.com today, the Irons have rekindled their interest:

“West Ham have dispatched a senior scout to watch Josh Sargent play for Norwich City on Saturday, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club are in the market for a new striker ahead of the January window. Sources say Sargent, 25, is firmly on West Ham‘s radar as they assess forward options. One of the Irons’ senior scouts will assess the USA international in Norwich’s clash against Birmingham City at St Andrews on Saturday, 22 November.”

He’s certainly got the ability to score in the second tier, but his last season in the Premier League proved pretty barren with just two goals in a losing cause as Norwich were relegated in 2021/2.

49 goals in the Championship and 11 in the Bundesliga may be tempting the Hammers to look again.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
