Report: Galatasaray reignite interest in Chicharito

According to Turkish newspaper Star (translated by Sport Witness) Galatasaray has re-ignited interest in signing West Ham striker Javier Hernandez.

The Super Lig club can offer the Mexico international Champions League football next season after again winning the Turkish league but his £145,000 per week wages are likely to be a large stumbling block.

Hernandez has just 12 months left on his contract with West Ham and has already admitted on a youtube video that he looking for another club but would see out the remainder of his contract if that was not possible.

The Hammers would need to have a replacement in place to be able to sell Hernandez who they hope would raise around £8m. The 31-year-old has made 61 appearances of which 36 were starts with 16 goals from all competitions.

The striker joined the Hammers from Bayer Leverkusen two years ago for just over £16m.

  1. Please God, let it be true! 🤞

  2. Take the money and run. He’s out of contract at the end of the season and can walk for nothing. He cannot play in the style Pellegrini prefers. He’s a square peg. I’m sure , with their extensive scouting network, there must be someone out there that can do the job.

  3. I’d be happy to keep him. I don’t think we’ll get more than 5m because his wages are so high and as much as I’d like another striker similar to Haller. I don’t think it hurts having a different option rather than only being able to play one way.

  4. That’s ok, if the manager is prepared to change the whole style to fit him. But he doesn’t, so Hernandez looks like a fish out of water. His scoring record is poor for someone on his vast wage. I think we will get more than 5 mill for him, but even at that price it’s better than losing him for nothing at the end of the season. 10 to 12 million has often been quoted, and if we can achieve this we should be able to find a replacement. I know we would have to add to that but I have no faith that Hernandez will up his game from last season.

    • I’m not suggesting he change his who style. But in certain games when our system isn’t working, having a different option is useful rather than just making like for like changes and playing exactly the same. I would hope we are able to play another system to counter different opposition.
