New reports that West Ham are refusing to rule out a move for Maxi Gomez are arising this morning.
Media sources have picked up on comments from ITK ExWHUemployee who claims that the Celta Vigo striker remains an option for the club.
The fact remains, sadly, that at £42 million it looks unlikely given the summer budget but Ex says there remains interest in the player.
He said: ““Until he joins someone else he is still an option but he does appear to be weighing up his options.”
However these appear to becoming limited with Barcelona reportedly having pulled out of the race after seeing a £20 million bid rejected according to Diario Sport quoting Radio Galega .
The striker’s position has been closely watched also by Spurs and we would have been interested at around the £22 million had the La Liga outfit been relegated.
It seems that all interested clubs have him priced at about the same £20 million…ish and should the Hammers go to say between £25m – £30m a deal could possibly be on.
According to other reports we may be interested in Andre Gomes although the rumoured £18m bid is probably unlikely to be accepted.
I don’t believe for a second our budget is 30m, if it was I would believe Pelle would want and we would undo all the damage from last year. Secondly I don’t believe we are looking for players with PL experience, last season we bought Balbuena, Diop, Anderson, Yarmo, Fredericks, Silva etc.. None of these had PL experience so I believe we have a significant budget that is being well disguised. We need to buy a top CM and a top wide player to play on the opposite side of Anderson similar to Anderson. Then a CH and LB if Cressie is sold. Finally if the owners are ambitious and want to move the hammers to the next level this needs to happen. The reason Spurs did not buy last season is that they did not need to buy. We need to buy as the team has obvious areas to improve.
£30 m plus sales which has been repeated many times James
I think we’ve more chance of Gomes than Gomez.
Look here it’s stupid to think we can improve by bringing in the cheap option e.g Rondon . If we want to improve we should go out and buy Gomez . In today’s market 30 million if not more is about right for Gomez and he would be a fantastic signing for us. The owners need to stump up the cash and show us ambition not say they want to improve and offer lemonade money for transfers .
