Report: Gomez negotiations with Valencia break down

According to local Spanish media negotiations between Valencia and Celta Vigo for the signature of Maxi Gomez have broken down over the low valuation of Santi Mina who has been touted as part of a swap plus cash deal.

The swap would see Mina return to the club where he began his career. The Spaniard signed for Valencia from Celta for 10 million euros in 2015 and would be a very popular addition to the squad with supporters

Spanish Journalist Alex Domínguez said  “Clarification on the current situation: the negotiations between Valencia CF and Celta Vigo are currently broken because the club has a very low valuation of Santi Mina.  Valencia thinks the footballer is worth a lot more. The two clubs, for the time being, immovable in their positions.”

West Ham made a £25m for the striker which as of yesterday had not been accepted but it is said his representatives would want assurances that he would not be cover for Marko Arnautovic.  They may still be a few twists and turns in this story.

  1. What we were waiting for. Now just need to offer him decent wages. I would sell Arnie because none of them would be happy as a second option.

    • I would sell him too but wanting to sell him isn’t enough, another club has to be willing to buy him. Personally I’d let him go for anything over 20m. I don’t want his negativity bringing our squad down as it did in January.

      • Sell Arne, are ye mad, our best player and will be unplayable next season with Gomez.

      • Definetly …i m not happy with arnie thinking he can turn up when he wants to and if his head gets turned again it will have an effect on the whole squad just like last season …. 20/25m get rid ….bring in someone whos young and hungry with something to prove and let Silva get a chance to show what hes made of

  2. Spot on bruno

    • Here we go again,we could get this lad if they stump up the money and stop messing around especially now Valencia have been told were to go..get it done ffs

  3. What was all the bs yesterday about our bid was accepted if now we are being fed a complete 180° again?
Whatever source Sky are getting their info from is either taking the p$$$ or it’s just another load of tripe so SuGo can say ‘we tried’ blah blah blah. same old same old.

    • there is a massive difference between bid accepted and signing the player, or do you love just to bash the board? remember the 100mill plus last year and it looks like its probably going to be the same and you’re still not happy.

  4. They clearly want the player exchange for obvious reasons, so you can interpret our bid any way you want but its probably accepted in principle but will only be offcially so if they cannot get what they want (and prefer) from Valencia. The player may prefer that as well. So you see it’s not quite as black and white as who is right and who is wrong. Presently our bid is the backup to the one they prefer but may itself become the preferred if they can’t get the deal they desire in Spain. If we had a similar player they wanted and wanted to go there it might be different.

    • If we can get around 30 mil for Arnie then it’s still 10 mil more for a 31/2 year old.
Nazri gone means we save over 100k a week so that will go into Gomez wages.

  5. It would be difficult for Pelle to accommodate both Arnie & Gomez . Anautovic’s attitude will always be in question . I have read on here that some say nobody should be backup to nobody . That’s all very fine and a bit dreamy . Everyone should fight for Thier place .
The bench needs quality and it should be the manager’s decision whom he picks to start on any given day and not be dictated to by contract . Backups are essential as proven by the position of Goalkeeper . The more competition to be in the starting eleven the better . If a player doesn’t have the confidence to make the grade he shouldn’t have to rely on his contract to get him there … it is a team & squad effort for the good of the club and the future respect earned by each and every player . A Club is bigger than any individual .
