Reports in Turkey suggest that West Ham has agreed to sign Besiktas striker Vincent Aboubakar for next season on a free transfer. The Cameroonian international has scored 15 goals and made five assists for Besiktas this season.
Aboubakar began his career at Coton Sport and moved to Europe in 2010, playing for Ligue 1 clubs Valenciennes and Lorient, totalling 109 appearances and 26 goals in France’s top division. In 2014, he signed for Porto, where he played over 100 games and scored over 50 goals, winning a Primeira Liga title. He won the Turkish Süper Lig while on loan at Beşiktaş in 2016–17.
Aboubakar has earned over 60 caps for Cameroon since his international debut in May 2010. He was part of their squads for the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, as well as the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015 and 2017. He scored the winning goal in the final of the latter.
After terminating his contract with Porto in 2020, Aboubakar returned to Beşiktaş in September 2020 signing a contract until 31 May 2021.
His experience suggests short term signing but then if no fee could be OK? The key is have we scouted him or is this their PR?
Might be the position filler we’re alleged to be seeking. If so, hopefully he will contribute to our current style and hit the ground running. Still think that Troy Deeney would be ideal for the Antonio down-time replacement. If Vincent Aboubakar can play like Troy then that would be terrific. Alan Saint-Maximin would be the ideal recruitment for our overall project.

I don’t know much about him and Cameroonian players have done well or us before (Mark Vivian Foe – RIP) and Alex Song
But the fact that he has been an international since 2010 is a bit worrying ?
