Report: Hammers battling City for midfielder

West Ham are battling Manchester City for Atletico Madrid midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, according to a new report in Spain.

Fichajes reports that there is real interest from the Premier League in securing the signature of the Central African Republic international.

The 29-year-old has made 34 appearances this season, and can play in both central and defensive midfield.

Kondogbia has previously played for the likes of Inter Milan, Sevilla, Monaco and Valencia and there now appears to be interest from both the Hammers and City.

City, of course, are preparing for the exit of Brazilian veteran Fernandinho, who is set to depart at the end of the season.

The Irons are also said to be eyeing a deal to bring Kondogbia in and that makes sense, given that the Irons are set to see their midfield very much diminished this summer.

Mark Noble, of course, is retiring, while Alex Kral is set to go back to Spartak Moscow.
