Report: Hammers battling PSG for striker

A new report in Italy claims that West Ham are facing competition from PSG to sign Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

The 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive season in Italy, scoring 16 league goals in 36 games, and he has also become a fully-fledged international, winning seven caps for the Euro 2020 champions.

Sassuolo have placed a huge €45m asking price on Scamacca’s head, which equates to £38.7m, as per Sport Mediaset.

That asking price has been designed to deter potential suitors, as Sassuolo are said to know that he is not yet the finished article.

The Hammers are said to hold a very real interest in signing the striker, but PSG have also been given the chance to make a bid by his representatives.

Any talks, though, are not said to be going anywhere, with the price tag deemed prohibitive, even by the big-spending French club.

We know that West Ham’s main striker target this summer is Armando Broja at Chelsea, and he would cost a lower fee than Scamacca.
