Report: Hammers chase England star

West Ham are interested in signing  Manchester United centre half Harry Maguire on loan during the January transfer window, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.

The Hammers are close to sanctioning the transfer of Wolves target Craig Dawson, and they have identified the England star as his replacement.

The midlands based club have already had a bid turned down for ‘Big Daws’, but they are expected to return for talks, with Dawson keen to return to the Midlands where his family is based.

Irons boss David Moyes wants to bring in another centre-back if the former Watford player is allowed to leave, and a temporary deal for out of favour Maguire would make sense.

While the 29-year-old is no longer a starter at Old Trafford, he proved his quality for Gareth Southgate at the World Cup in Qatar. Maguire’s favoured position is on the left side of defence which could prove interesting given Nayef Aguerd’s return to fitness.

Man Utd are reportedly open to selling Maguire at the end of the season, but but his value has plummeted since they paid £80 million they paid Leicester City for his signature in 2019.

West Ham have conceded 25 goals in 19 games, so clearly require defensive reinforcements.

  1. Interesting indeed, as Aguerd didn’t look comfortable playing on the right side of defence last time out against Wolves.

    • I disagree. I thought Aguerd looked extremely comfortable playing right side of defence just as he did playing for Morocco during works cup.

  2. We are so nervous at the back as it is without bringing this error ridden clown to the club !!!!!

  3. I don’t believe Harry maguire will be leaving Manchester United in this window for a minute.

  4. Before the world cup it would have been a definite no but i thought he played well in the world cup.
On loan only i would take a punt.
