Report: Hammers eye 33 year old to replace Zaba

There are stories …and then there are sensible reports!

And the tale in The Sun this morning seems like nether  given the Hammers and Pablo Zabaleta have yet to agree on whether he will be staying at the club next season.

As we have reported on several occasion Zaba only needs another eight Hammers appearances this season to automatically qualify for a new deal.

But already The Sun is claiming his replacement – in Antonio Valencia who is only one year younger – has been lined up should the Argentinian decide to call it a day.

That’s not true according to our senior source – who spoke to us by text – and admitted  the manager would like to keep Zaba for another year anyway given the trust between them built up at Manchester City and here.

According to the report Valencia has been at Old Trafford for 10 years but his contract ends this summer and there are no plans to discuss a new deal.

However, should Zaba add those final eight appearances a new contract will kick in automatically and he may find it difficult to resist a final year at this level.

  1. Jesus why would we replace Zabaleta with someone nearly as old. We need someone younger so we can build a team for the long term. Anyway I hope Zab stays another year , he’s been great for us . COYI ⚒
