Report: Hammers eyeing another Championship defender

West Ham want to do a deal for Sheffield United star John Egan, according to a report from The Sun.

We reported earlier today that there is interest in signing Joe Worrall from Nottingham Forest and that the Irons feel they are in pole position to secure his signature.

There is potential that a deal can be done, especially given that Forest are also interested in Emmanuel Longelo, the young Irons left-back.

A player-plus-cash deal has real potential, but The Sun reports that David Moyes is also keeping tabs on Egan at Bramall Lane.

Egan is 29 and he may be seen as a potential backup option if a deal for Worrall is not able to be struck, particularly if Forest do win promotion.

Sheffield United are currently sixth in the Championship, in the final play-off spot in the table, and them not going up could see Egan made available for transfer.

He is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League.
