Report: Hammers eyeing Championship ace in January

West Ham are considering launching a January bid for Sheffield United man John Egan.

The Sun reports that the Republic of Ireland international was identified as a target during the summer transfer window.

The Irons eventually signed both Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer but the newspaper reports that there is now interest in signing Egan from the Championship club at the turn of the year.

Boss David Moyes is said to remain keen to strengthen his backline and a bid for Egan is being contemplated in January.

The Blades will not give in easily, however, and are likely to demand a significant fee for the centre-back.

Signing Egan would also open the door to Craig Dawson’s exit, after he went within a whisker of moving on in the summer window amid interest from both Aston Villa and Wolves.

We know that Moyes likes to raid the Championship but this deal would surely hinge on whether or not Dawson leaves.

  1. More toffy reporting. Egan is 29 solid defender but a 75% bfit Ogbonna is still a better defender. We will possibly lose Dawson in the next window but not Ogbonna. If we do lose Dawson we still have 4 defenders Zouma, Aguerd, Kehrer and Ogbonna with the possibility if stucknof playing Rice there. If we sign a CB we should be looking at quality young players potential like Fofana. There is a bit of talk about a young Norwich cb who has already been capped at intl level for example. Some jazy reporting here and if trust some jazy recruitment.
