Report: Hammers eyeing new midfield name

West Ham are eyeing a move for Mattias Svanberg, according to a new report.

The Sweden international currently plays for Bologna in Serie A and a new report claims that the Hammers are keeping a close eye on his development in Italy.

Corriere dello Sport claims that the Irons have made an enquiry about his availability and that Bologna could be willing to sanction a sale in the summer.

Svanberg has also been linked with Spurs and AC Milan, as his performances this season have caught the eye.

The 23-year-old has made 29 appearances this season and has scored three goals and provided two assists.

Bologna have reportedly set a ‘high’ asking price for Svanberg but that was also reported to be the case for Takehiro Tomiyasu last summer, and he eventually joined Arsenal.

Their position is somewhat weakened by the fact that the midfielder’s contract is expiring in 2023, meaning this might be the Italian club’s final chance to receive a fee for him.
