There’s not been much to cheer about in recent weeks. West Ham fans are bracing themselves for a torrid transfer window with, by all accounts, a dozen departures as the heart is ripped out of the failed squad that couldn’t keep them in the Premier League.

Necessary? Definitely. Pleasant? Certainly not. Seeing players of the calibre of Summerville and Fernandes depart for former competitors will be painful and the quality of those brought in to replace them will be a sorry reminder of the gulf in quality between the two divisions.

Bold claim from Sun journalist gives rise to cautious optimism

Bowen – not for sale – Bold claim from Sun journalist Jack Rosser

But there is some positive news – if it turns out to be true- from journalist Jack Rosser who is normally pretty clued up on all things West Ham. Writing in the sun.co.uk, Rosser makes the bold claim that:

“WEST HAM have told Jarrod Bowen’s suitors they want to keep their captain at the club this summer.”

Nobody of course is suggesting this is set in stone ( that’s the ‘West Ham way’) ..but if the Hammers keep their talismanic winger it does give them a nucleus around which to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

Bowen would be electric in the Championship and if the Irons can persuade him, along with three or four other first team players to stay for a season then the Hammers position as pre-season favourites for promotion might start to look justified.

However ten weeks of transfer window cut and thrust may yet see the West Ham board’s resolve tested if Chelsea – reported to be considering Bowen for £40 million – actually step forward with a bid. Going to be a long summer.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

If we get to keep our talism captain I hope we can use him as a inside forward in the Championship. Not a Wing Back. Not a 10, not a Striker, not a natural winger hugging the touchline. A winger with opposite foot, like Bowen, should play as an inside forward. His right foot is not bad, but if you want crosses from the goal line, then play him on the left.

If you want goals, let him do what he does best.

and he is the kind of intelligent footballer who can shift positions in a match and play just as well in each position. Starting as a left or right winger with Soucek/Kante storming in for headers, then playing as an Inside forward to a no9 (Taty good at assists as well), sounds brilliant and will catch opp. defence off guard sometimes,

Must be brilliant for a manager having such an adaptable player who is a constant threat. Perhaps Summerville could similarly change roles – if still at WHU of course.

Think WHU were way too rigid in attack with players not interchanging, shifting positions when it is one of the greatest strengths of our forward line, or was anyhow.

I wish that talks about Bowen leaving would stop, it’s getting tedious, pure fantasy

Precisely why I ignore and switch off from everything but FACTUAL news in the off season.
SM has clicks to be gained, papers need to be sold etc etc, hence the requirement for superfluous transfer gossip, speculation and nonsense.
I’ll deal with the FACTS as they arise.
      See you in the Championship!
